The basic usage of the extrapolation method is finding the minimal X/Y coordinate that is correct (i.e. doesn't give you 'Incorrect coordinate), inputting that, and checking the maximum valid coordinate. Remember that the minimum valid coordinate can be a fraction (.0, .25, .5, .75).

If you checked both the min and max correctly, the program will give you valid calibration constants, without the use of a GPS or other methods not available to the AI and/or borgs.

How exactly it works under the hood is something I want to write a longer explanation on, but it requires Ugh, that button..., so it's progressing slowly.
