Hi, you should probably use the search function before posting another thread as I requested something almost exactly the same a few pages back.
That said I like all these idea's (bar alien code, nope this cannot happen) Note that there are many types of artifacts and will probably give coders/brainstormers/spriters a better idea of what goes where. (thanks cogs to giving me some backstory to these , bar the wizard for which I gleamed a bit from the wiki )
Forerunner Artifacts - Completely mysterious and virtually unknown ancient race. Nothing organic remains.
Eldritch Artifacts - Equally mysterious yet extremely unnerving and evil. Research at extreme caution.
Robotic Artifacts - Strange sleek machines which some information is known but met with hostility.
Wizard Artifacts - More of a "society", using advanced, possibly stolen technology and masking it as archaic.
Martian Artifacts - On par with Nanotrasen/human technology, however are centuries ahead in organics.
I don't think there should be more sprites added for artifacts, I think artifacts should be multi-use, with each use randomizing every round depending on what type they are. However if more sprites are needed, I suppose I can try my hand.

A large Artifact that gives borgs random upgrades
