I've been thinking lately, that it is way too easy to hide crimes by simply wearing gloves. I can't remember the last time a non-petty crime was solved by forensics and I have been floating an idea in my head.
Anyway, in 2025 DNA forensics allows us to solve crimes that are 30 years old by, by having preserved murderweapons, a strand of hair or whatever. I don't see why a culprit wouldn't have left some DNA on a murder victim, even if just a strand of hair (go go baldies with a wig leaving nothing). Anyway, I propose the DNA should be able to take a swap of a victim (possibly just with a wet sponge or something equally goofy) and insert it into a machine that will analyze DNA on the victim, this process could maybe take a few minutes and not be done on scene like with fingerprints.
Possible ways to avoid leaving DNA: Wear a full bodysuit that you have showered with on before committing crime
I also think this detective training / ability should not be unique to detective (might be antag, might be dead, might not even have spawned) - Could give the same machine to medbay in morgue.
I like your idea too, again, I don't think it should be unique to detective. Possibly the MD should be experienced enough of a doctor to recognize the same things.
