This just makes doctors make the chemicals themselves leaving anyone that signed up as scientist to make medical chems in the dust. This gives a specific "I'm here to make the medical chems" job that people wanting to do can sign up as, rather than signing up as scientist and being bypassed by the doctor in pharmacy or signing up as doctor and neglecting actual doctoring to run the pharmacy. Chemists can still make other chemicals, there are plenty of non-medical chemicals the station wants. You could make cleaner chembombs for janitors, specialist chemicals for botany infusions, fulfill chemical requests for cargo, etc. The problem with doctor self-sufficiency is that you don't interact with other players when making your own chems, now you have to interact with the pharmacist for them.
I also think its important to note that doctors don't completely lose access to all poisons. They still get access to the poison bottle bundle and hacked medical vendors.
Yeah, agree with this. Again, I have something against pharmacy access being limited. But a lot of people have an odd view about pharmacist jobs.
I do wonder if anyone in this thread ever play pharmacist role or seen one. A lot of the idea of pharmacist to some people on this thread is just "I don't like asking science for things, therefore I can't trust a different role entirely who has specific niche". If a lot of servers work with chemist specific job, why can't it work here?
If the answer is just "I can't trust anyone on this server", they might need to review how they see other players and how themselves play. It seems like pushing the idea that players can't work or interact with each other. Especially on roleplay server.
Adding to some argument. I do not like the access thing, but in reality pharmacy most use is either antag shenanigans or rushing certain advanced chems that actually can make the round flow changes. Nanomed is pretty much easy to refill and doctors rarely need to make their own meds because they have three nanomeds which some doctors do not always utilize all chems in it and stick with the 4 saline, epi, char, and potassium iodide. Not to mention easy refill.
People will not just all die and wither just because no one use the pharmacy. Because that rarely ever happens. "Medbay can't heal anyone" is not really a big argument here either. I do not use omni a lot, it can be bought from cargo. I do not use synthflesh too, as in most people aren't allergic and the two menders already do it's job. PI and char are both enough, salb and epi is far enough than perf. Atropine is hard to make. Etc.
