Reason for application + game experience (300 word minimum):
I always find myself excited to help people out, lend a hand or share what i know when somebody needs it. So i thought that mentorship could be a lot of fun and give something to the community. Mentors are cool beans who help people and i too would like to help.
I've been playing on goon for over 5 years now and have seen a bit of everything from everywhere, with some systems changing a lot from when i first learned them. While my knowledge isn't the deepest on the more arcane subjects, i have at least a general understanding of how to do most things.
Security: As a long time security player and Head of Security™ this is naturally where i have the most experience in, even if security is one of the more "mechanically light" areas of the game. I think i can confidently say i know the ins and outs of security, it's tools and it's mechanics. On the other hand, due to it being a very social role that interacts with a wide array of players- and especially antagonists- it's still one of the trickier things to handle. As there are a lot fewer clear cut answers to a lot of questions about security-ing, i think my experience can help a lot of budding secoffs find their footing. Or tell other hosii how to tie their shoes (after i ask other mentors how to do that myself).
Medical: Actually what i initially played mostly, the surgery refactor got me by surprise. But now i can once again slice and dice with the best of them and got a good grasp on most things medical. I'm also pretty confident with roboticist at this point despite it being something i used to avoid. I'm sure there are some finer points i'm unfamiliar with but even those will come wtih time too.
Science: Probably what i'm least familiar with, but even then i know most of the basics and can cook up chem-mixes, assemble all kinds of bombs and sort out artifacts. Definitely something i'm hoping to deepen my knowledge on but i'm able to answer most questions a newbee might have. Plasma hot.
Engineering: Okay, don't ask me how to packet-hack or set-up a teleporter network. I know how to set-up all types of engines and even get them to perform well, as well as fixing or creating hull breaches of varying sizes. Definitely another department in which i spend less time than i would like to, but overall i am still pretty confident. I've mined and mastered my quarters a fair deal too, as to a point in which im confident i can answer most questions in those areas too. The finer points may still elude me but still, pretty solid understanding of engineering and it's vestiges.
Civilian: I've played quite a lot of chef and bartender, i got a good understanding on most of their general use and applications as well as how to do most recipes. Botanist is something i never really had the chance to play, just never found the time for it. I played a decent chunk of janitor, i know how to clean up a spill.
Clown: all fear Mephistopheles. I got my clown phd.
AI: I play AI now and then, not something i main or know the deeper parts of but with how often i have to interact with them as security i am well informed on how they function and how laws are handled and applied.
Command: I played a lot of command over the years and especially leading up to my HoS application. And well, now i play a lot of HoS. Whenever i'm in a command position i try my best to care for the goobers i'm in charge of and help where i can, as well as be a voice of reason for more chaotic command teams.
Generally i'm also applying as mentor so that i have a good excuse/reason to familiarize myself with areas of the game outside of my comfort zone and hope to add a lot more information to my knowledge over the following months. I may not know everything, or even a majority of things, but maybe i can be one more nerd giving out advice and answers.
