It's pretty simple: If you want to gate something behind a currency, you want to force a choice. If you have so many spacebux that they stop to matter, that choice cease to exist and you miss your design goal (being a meaningful choice between spending them or not).
Or differently speaking: People can get their roundstart item without thinking about spacebux. So why do we have them in the first place? Remove them or make them meaningful by getting the numbers under control.
