This is actually pretty cool. I only just learned about the fact that geneticists can do genes on animals - applying certain human genes to them for resilience (which i think can technically be done already, not sure) - as well as "chicken genes", that might be interesting
As a potential example, maybe there could a chicken gene of "Needs less of a certain type of food to evolve to the next stage", or, "Effects from eggs laid by this one chicken will last longer", or "This chicken gains happiness faster", or "This chicken does not lose all happiness from being overfed"
Would need a bit more fleshing out, but it sounds like something for the genetics department to do! A reason to get out of their office (go and ask the rancher for chickens, if the rancher does not come to them)
And, and, and, the genes of a chicken could be passed down to their offspring. Actual "genetics"
