I think ultimately if you don't find a way you like that removes any question: Dump it. Do something else, and that's totally okay. 

If I didn't like the character, I would have by now. But, thing is, I genuinely do. It's a character I'm kinda attached to at this point. It's just frustrating how the ideal way to handle the character doesn't and likely never will work mechanically.
