Mikes Mentor app
#2
Hi there, this was planned to be done a little sooner but I got there in the end.

So ironically I see a lot of Mikewas/is/foreverwillbetaken's character while playing but I actually think we've never directly interacted aside from some minor greetings. Just one of those things. However, I took a bit of time over the last month (in fits and starts)

You're relatively active and have been for some time on the questions section of discord, some rounds I've had where I was in a position to either observe or watch in the past have that subtle pattern in engineering where it all kind of just works out and thus I stop watching (for a lack of fireworks) It made writing out feedback for this require I actually pay attention but I do think it infers along with your history on the question section that you know what you're doing in there. It's one of those ironies that those who keep things running along and help out are also easily missed (at least by me, junkie for finding and watching a problem unfold) and from what I've caught since I'd say this is what's going on.

I think as you say in your application, it might be okay to have that confidence in yourself and engage in helping in those projects more, partly fun for you but also just that from what I can tell you've got a good energy there and a creative mindset so could be fun for everyone! Not entirely a mentor thing, but it's worth saying.

I've since caught a few rounds, you've got a good instruction routine for engine setup and you were very patient. Everyone's got their own style for teaching but I think one of the key aspects is how well you can convey that information for someone to retain. It's easy to "Show" someone a setup or bombard them with the steps for some rote learning but instead you took a little more time to talk people through it and do some call-and-response.

So with the regularly activity in the discord question section showing you're willing to take the time out to help, observing your style of helping in game showing you can convey information well, and just the general observation in the past that I haven't noticed a tremendous amount of drama around your characters sort of paints a character that matches the motivation stated in your application: you enjoy helping people. That's 99% of the job, so +1 from me.
