To clarify something: We established pretty quickly the existence of the syndicate stamp though I appreciate it being brought up here as it'll help illustrate what I say next.
That stamp's great, and as people have stated here a nice option is to just simply make it available at the listening post in any capacity the person doing it feels like. However, it does not fit the original reason I brought up the idea so I'll try poorly to sell that more directly to forum users and contributors now:
As I said before: Notes left at crime scenes or delivered as threats are fun: However, the default note sprite does not stand out. It's very easy to both entirely miss its presence or if someone sees it: think it may not be anything of notable worth.
The only current way to draw attention to the note beyond drawing four crayon arrows pointing right at it is to stamp it. However however, the stamps are not what I'd say are a strong visual indicator that this particular note comes from Bad Guye Mc Evil. The best stamp for suggesting a note may be unique I'd argue is in fact the clown stamp: The colour is distinct, bright.
While it would be cool to stamp things with the syndicate stamp, it does not to me achieve the result I'm suggesting we might enjoy having. However, having a note modified in a way that's unique makes that a lot easier. "The cool S" I suggested at first entirely because in the space offered by the note sprite, sticking a miniaturised "S" on it seemed simpler and more visually distinct than a bit of red, and then extended that idea out to the other antags because well maybe evil aliens, mutated humans with electric or fiendish blood powers so on might like writing a nice note too hence the fleshy pulsating mass, maybe some pyrolyzed/scorched note from arcfiends so on, so on. That way, if you see a bit of paper while investigating, you are given a clear indication of the following:
- A bad guy has left or marked this note very intentionally
- It's not likely to be anything else.
To summarise: The syndicate stamp is cool, but not actually the goal intended in my original suggestion. If it turns out that nah, that's what people -do want- or its more about writing paperwork then godspeed that's great, and I can move on having tried to pawn off making a load of note sprites or Evil Guy Letterheading sprites on some other poor soul.
