I've not really ever seen them don the actual officer's uniform. I can't speak for how they engage with their team as I've been allergic to security gameplay lately, but there have been a few rounds that were high-antag, high-stress, and the team seemed to be in near constant disarray. Recommend using those moments to step up, take point, and delegate rather than be at the front lines of every engagement!
To speak on the AI comment as I've played it a bit: the AI has such wide visibility on the round, that we're bound to see some illegal activity. Best thing to do is ask yourself if it's worth informing security and shutting it down, or letting the story play out. Which one is typically healthier for RP, and the like. Consider things like round time, is security overwhelmed, how's the general feel for the station, etc.
Overall, I can't recommend just yet based on my limited perspective just yet, but they've got a good foundation.
