That nerd sounds awful - what would be the point of the cloak at that point?

the cloak turns into something it should be (an item for stealth and hiding, lets you sneak around or go incognito when people are looking for you after a murder) instead of being something it shouldn't be (basically a shield that can make you not only invulnerable but literally untouchable by everything except well aimed tasers/lasers and glass shards)
