There's a mechanic in place that when a ling eats another ling, he gains all the DNA his meal had eaten ontop of the normal ten points(or is it just the amount of DNA they had? I can't remember). Besides, letting there be a risk of your changeling buddies turning on you after a heated battle and devouring you to secure their place as apex predator counter-balances the fact that two coordinated lings are exponentially more deadly than two lings simply wreaking havoc.
