I agree entirely with IKEA’s point on this, there is also this weird task that often happens on RP where you see someone get HOS’d, and they just never play officer again. Like to the point you see them cryo out if they get outroll’d for HoS. I’ve asked about it and the wider part of the justification is “HoS gets a lot more interaction than normal officers so it’s understandable to not want to play officer again” <- response from an admin. Like, on RP, people get a lot more serious and get themselves burnt out on sec, to the point they see it more as a responsibility and less as a fun job. I think this culture on RP of HoS being the ‘high responsibility high interaction’ role while NTSO being the ‘independent/low responsibility’ role further leads credence to all the points IKEA made.
Also, while we are SS13, people tend to have negative connotations to the abbreviations SS because of the SS of Nazi Germany. NTSS as a job just sounds like an NT division of the SS and I’m sorry but that’s really the only way it sounds. We already have the SS abbreviation as space station. The fact it keeps coming back up concerns me deeply
Final point, while the job name doesn’t change how those playing it will play it, it will change how current and new players see it, with a higher emphasis on the new players who learn how to play with/against the NTSC
