my guesses:
- community members have spent years learning the Byond language, DreamMaker
- it would be a colossal undertaking to rewrite the game in another language
- some darling contributors may not have the time or interest to learn a new language (ex. C#)
- some features/bugs will be impossible to recreate 1:1 in a new engine due to architectural limitations
- 'remastering' the byond engine/ss13 is a political process, which would be especially difficult for a self-organized community
the name "SS14" is a bit tone-deaf because it ignores the unlucky connotation of the number 13.
