WIP Feature Poll: Communications update

Hey all,

I'm going to try something new and see how it goes. That thing is I talk about what I'm working on while I'm working on it to get community feedback before it gets released. Disclaimer: This thread, and any in the future if I keep doing this, isn't any sort of promise. Its more of a "hey I've been playing around with this and might do this update if I think it comes out well. What do people think?" deal. This isn't an official New Thing Coders Do, just a Thing Firebarrage Is Trying Out. 

Here goes!

I'm working on a communications update that includes several components. There's a handful of things I could possibly include in this update but I'm not sure if people will like it or not, so I'm opening it to discussion/polling here. This is NOT a guaranteed content poll, it's more for me to see what people are interested in so I can put my effort into the aspects people like most.

The components include:

1. Cell phones! Its like normal phones. But cell phones. You can call any phone/cell phone from them or be called by others. Think of it as a better version of PDA messaging. They must be in range of a cell tower to function, and the further you are from these towers the worse the call quality becomes. Cell towers can of course be wiretapped to listen in to conversations or destroyed to block communications. It also goes without saying that Nanotrasen is probably not going to budget for perfect radio coverage of a station. It's up to mechanics to boost the system if they want clear signals. Questions I have about phones are: 1a) Should they be starter items or be purchased? 1b) If they are purchasable should they be bought with spacebux, credits or both? If credits, should they be cheap (~200 credits) or expensive (~1000 credits)?
   
   
2. Radio changes. I'm considering a new radio system that requires some more crew interaction for long-distance comms. This means that radio headsets would no loner work between Z levels. Instead you would need to find a long-distance communication antenna on other Z levels to send messages between them. Many areas like the diner would have these added by default while adventure zones would require you to build one if you want to talk to the station.
   Second, I'm thinking of making radios require radio towers (shared with cell phone towers). Like phones, your radio signal quality is directly related to how close a tower is to you. This is a big pile of questions really. 2a) Should radio headsets be blocked between Z levels and should inter-Z-level comms be replaced with a long distance communication device? 2b) Should radio headsets be affected by distance from radio towers on a station?
   

I really like the idea of radio being a more involved mechanic. Adventure zones will feel more isolated and risky, traitors gain new strategies to interfere with communications, security can wiretap comms to listen in on traitorous messages, etc. Let me know your thoughts in the poll.

Oh and if you have suggestions or questions or think im a big dumb idiot who shouldnt do this at all go ahead and post below. Except Azungar. His opinions don't matter.
