After full construction, maintenance panel like pods:
Any pod engine: allows flight in space and a boost ability that will be available when not in space - boosting will heat the air in the cabin and throw the forklift in a straight line, damaging the first player/wall it hits as well as the forklift, any players will be dealt brute and yeeted away. (Boosting into walls will break them (loaf style) and further damage the forklift. Lifts equipped with reinforced forks can additionally damage reinforced walls)
Fork of wrath: weapon attachment that will cause sight slight brute to players when run into, and causes players to be dealt additional brute damage when boosted into and have a low chance of impaling, binding the player to the fork and stunning them. The player may then free themself after the stun.
Fork of strength: weapon slot - reinforced fork with the capacity for two additional crates.
Com array: same as pods, allows interfacing with hangar doors.
Fuel slot: applies only to engine-equipped lifts
Atmos slot: applies only to pressurized cabins
Police lamp: light slot - replaces the forklift hazard light with the police light and siren (weewooweewoo)
Spotlight: light slot - replaces hazards with an amplified flashlight.
ASSEMBLY:
QM fabricator: where most forklift parts will be found
Forklift Frame kit - deploy like normal pod frame
Wrench, wrench, weld
Forklift wheels, add to frame and wrench
Add plating, special variants for erebite and such, reinforced plating gives additional hp, but slows the forklift
Add glass, standard glass has no effect and progresses assembly, but adding wires, retrofitted circuitry (miniputt/pod circuitry, screwdriver, wirecutters, multitool in hand) then soldering the forklift assembly at this point unlocks the additional pod-esque maintenance panel slots later. adding reinforced glass and welding after this step creates a pressurized cabin. (Standard glass may still be used)
Any kind of forklift fork, add to assembly to complete
BALANCE:
Specialized forks only available from QM trader
Non-retrofitted forklifts will still have a maintenance panel, but only the lights and fork and wheels may be swapped out.
Players can still be kicked out of forklifts as usual, but removing players from a pressurized cabin requires a short channel instead of being instantaneous.
Retrofitted forklifts have a chance of taking damage when any non-fork/light/wheel abilities are used
Forklifts may be repaired with a welding tool
Can't remember if this is a thing or not, but players will no longer be able to scan forklifts.
Bring the forklift abilities off the commands tab and into the updated top-left button menu
Fully modular, easily expandable through patches
I like the cut of your jib.
One additional thing: let us apply pod paintjobs to forklifts.
