An opt-in to be griefed but not grief sounds like Goon on hardmode. I like it! It would have the obvious problem of increased levels of accidental grief, though. There should be a way to minimize this if this is implemented. For example, an icon over someone's sprite visible to all players, or when you inspect someone you get a big red text saying that they may be ganked, or a list of all people who may be freely griefed that is accessible to all players. I like the last two options when combined together (and when you observe someone who's too far or has the meta-neural haze gene, you still can tell if they may be griefed).
Also I would argue that if the last option is taken, then shapeshifting into that person makes you a valid target, as you have access to knowing whether or not the person you're shapeshifting into is the target of bored Goons. HOWEVER, this also means that injecting someone with Stable Mutagen imprinted onto someone who is on the grief-list is an antagonistic action, as you are freeing them up to be brutally murdered by anyone (basically similar to cluwning someone).
