As pointed out by Cirrial, One of the requirements of being a mentor is being able to not act on information you gain through mentorhelp.
I do think having a knowledge of most systems is important, there aren't always a full party of mentors to answer each niche question.

I do not think having a vast knowledge of AI is enough, as awful pointed out, most questions are basic questions, and things you can't find on the wiki.
