Non-extended rounds on destiny
#1
LLJK1 has been pretty void of people lately, and it makes sense, all extended all the time gets pretty boring. I think it'd be good if we had some non-extended rounds with antags, but still in an RP setting, and maybe not as many as LLJK2, and without the more extreme antag types like nukeops.

Agreed, the lack of any antagonists is generally why I don't play LLJK1 all that much. If you're playing a job that's reactive to stuff happening, like Medical Doctor or Sec, rounds can really drag as there's nothing for you to respond to.

i was thinking about posting something like this.

Engineer and Security are generally useless, after you start the engine, unless a chemist makes some shit, you will almost never repair something.
And security gets really boring, cause there is never anyone committing a crime, so you become a shitsec start to hunt down anything slightly illegal, and once you find it, go into a crusade to destroy it.

I think nuke ops, wizard, blob?, and wraith should be disabled due to them destroying the station

Once my PC has recovered from the Curse of the Cyborg Patch™ I was going to put together a round type that was basically "Extended+", with a chance of an extended round and a chance of a hard-mode traitor round (weighted in favour of Extended, maybe 80:20 or something).

I think this would be a nice compromise.

Make all round with hard mode traitors, otherwise i think people will start restarting the severs just to get a traitor round

Just ban the people who try to do that

I made a thread about this a long time ago. But good idea!

I miss going there but the combination of lowpop and always extended makes me avoid it. Maybe, like ass day, we have one day a month called Destiny day where #2 gets either switched to the destiny map or switched to extended and #1 gets traitor modes.

I really enjoyed those Day of Destiny events

just do hardmode traitor with a very rare changeling or something and bam there you go

If you really want traitor items make a much much more restricted list of options

There is a very good reason there is a readily available low-pop, no antag server: to practice your Goonstation skills. SS13 is a difficult game, and Goonstation code is (mostly) private. Figuring something out can take weeks, even months, and some tests require 30 minute setups. It became very frustrating to train when every other round, some little fuckwad got an antag-role, murdered all 4 players and blew up the station, shitgiggling all the way because the adrenaline blinded them to the obvious; it's not funny.

So antag roles were turned off. There are other reasons, but this is one.

I can't speak for the admins but I don't think the initial idea of destiny was for it to be perma-extended so people can learn with upmost immunity every single nook and cranny that gooncode has to offer.

It's not completely untrue to seperate goon players into two mindsets, those who want to play and the latter, those who want to learn (and in exchange use that knowledge on a later round / at round end / as a traitor). Most players fall inbetween, toing and froing between both playstyles, depending on mood.

I felt destiny as a concept was to cater for both parties, not the latter. An environment where being an antagonist is a story, rather than an endgame. It was also to cater for those who want to learn, and being a mid-rp it creates a middle ground so to speak.

I'm not a fan of extended as it currently stands as it's extremely stagnant. The Sim requirements, are toned down to a point where they are not even a mere annoyance, and on the otherhand if left to 0 will kill you in less than 5 minutes.  I would like to see what mordent (or any other coder) would bring to the table.

I raise the point that "traitor" or "extended traitor" isn't the only option we have for Destiny. It seems it was intended it, being a ship, had more options of being a PvE than PvP, with the ship shields and all that. I remember something mentioned of the ship itself warping to other space. That's something that could be explored too. Procedural development isn't new (see: mining magnet)

Edit: We had an extended server before Destiny, it was called #3. It died / got merged because nobody was playing on it. I'd say history repeating itself, but this is not even history, Destiny as a map isn't that old.

Isn't this just the lax time of year? This time last year LLJK2 often had 0 people at 3-4am @ -5UTC. SS13 players are a limited resource.

Destiny was for forced light roleplay. That included antags. It's just that being a specialized, non-main server meant one murder would often kill 1/5th the crew. You can't really change that. Destiny really requires specialized antags. I'm not sure how this will help as people who want to be antags generally just want to murder other people. Putting a cap on their fun just means they'll stick to lljk2 or another ss13 server. Not putting a cap on their fun means a station devoid of people with no resistance.

To elaborate:

Destiny was never meant to be a 'test server' where people go solely to tinker with stuff and do nothing but. The fact it's currently stuck on extended is due largely to, I assume, the majority of the people who currently play on it wishing for it to be so. The server isn't retroactively a test server just because that's what people are currently using it for.

Destiny is the RP server, for RP. And what are you trying to figure out that takes months?

Anyway, moving on from Grim's assumption, i think if we were to have normal traitors, with fancy tech and such, not all items should be available, especially the more lethal and destructive such as bombs and grenades
