Robusting Tips
#1
with the most/least robust threads, I figured people could get some use from robusting tips, so share em here! I'll start:

Choking is terribly underutilized. Using headgear is robust, but getting stunned is not very robust. Take advantage of stuns to remove headgear and get essentially a free win, provided you're alone.

The disposal-chute stun-trick thingy, where you stuff yourself into a disposal pipe and then immediately drag your opponent into it to stun them as they approach.

There is literally no counter, and is infuriating to deal with. The only thing that stops it from being absolutely brutal is that it's not too conducive to the murder-murder aspect of robusting, as it also stuns you when you jump out.

I found a good if strange way to avoid getting hit is to just mash the direction keys in a rough circle.

so if you are using wasd that'd look something like this:

wasdwwwdsawawdsawwdsawdwsawdsawdswdsawdsadwaswdsasawdsawdsawdawedasdaweasdawads

the slight randomness is enough to make you hard to hit

On the run from security carrying energy guns? Maybe a villain with phasers? Abuse the crouch-slide (rest during the chaos and then hold whatever direction you want to go in as you stand up,) you'll get some distance while their shots fly past you.

Note, this does not help if they're just going for melee attacks.

This also does not work at point blank range.

Have another tip.

Someone in the discord said it is possible to chairflip someone and still have enough time to remove an object from them before the stun ends, provided you have the menu open before the flip. This would make it great for drive-by theivery.

Here ya go: http://wiki.ss13.co/Guide_to_Being_Robust
Because BYOND is silly, click on the enemy sprite even when they're far away because apparently it'll hit them anyway when they get somewhat close.

best tip is to just not fear death. approach that crazed c-saber dude and spam disarm on him while moving all crazy. then kill him with his weapon!

in some bad samurai movie i saw, they talked about how the samurai spends time each day visualizing his death in all manner of ways, in order to condition himself for battle. become a space samurai and kill yourself for many rounds in a row. this way you will lose your worldly attachments and learn to be a true space warrior.

bait people into chairs and flip into them, or bait them by a bush and get a few good hits in.

in gunfights, bait (notice a trend?) your enemy into a straightaway by retreating through a doorway and hoping the idiot runs through that door. prefire that nerd and stab him to death.

take lots of stimulants, too.

prepare weapons and survival necessities such as internals, keep a fire extinguisher on you, have a space suit stashed somewhere if you do not have room for it in your bag, get sunglasses, get insulated gloves, get an improved access id. steal anti-slip boots such as galoshes or magic sandals from the locations where they are kept

carry medicine to heal yourself and allies with. do your best to deny enemy of medicine supply. applying damage-over-time effects to enemy such as burning, poison, radiation is great. applying disabilities such as deafness or blindness is great.

if working with groups, be wary of causing floor slippage via ice, water, or any means as the enemy may have anti slip boots or stun reducing drugs and your allies may not. this is especially bad when the ice overlays for example a nuke and renders it impossible to melee smash

people chasing you are often unprepared or hesitant to pursue you into space, so the pod bay and other locations where you can readily slip away into space make great escape options. even if they hop in a pod too it is simple to lose them in the vast expanse of space and you have your pick of locations to park at, resupply and re infiltrate the station

hiding in bushes, lockers etc works well both defensively and as an ambush tactic

keep in mind ways to foil an ai from tracking you and squealing on you or locking you down (agent card, snipping cameras, killing the bastard). in a related note, get a machine translator implant for yourself and your allies and monitor the channel but do not speak on it unless necessary.

spacing someone does not guarantee their death, even if theyre not a ling, because aforementioned preparations may save someone from being tossed outside. beat them into crit/inflict heavy bleeding and strip them first before tossing them for best results.

If you can't do something smart, do something hard.

just saw this thread after commenting this in the other thread, use bushes/shrubs they are very useful

If you're not strong in a fight, you can be strong in hiding. Just like me getting away from the station with my hacking skills and getting a voltron to pet the AI.

Robustness isn't just about quick moves, it's also about planning and gathering tools. A dude with one weapon and a plan how to use it will beat a guy with 5 weapons and no plan. Have a plan of attack, and be prepared to run like a girl if it fails.

One thing that helps is, try to figure out what your opponent would do. Do you guys just have a confrontation and they ran off injured? They probably will go to the nearest medpack. Did they shoot at you with taser or lasers? They'll probably want to recharge their weapons.

Use this to avoid/get the drop on them
