I know that you can still summon the singularity using parts from all around the map, but to the extent of my knowledge there's no way to keep it stable and no way to derive energy from it any more which means that newer players such as myself will never get to see a singularity engine in action.
Which makes me sad.
So i wanted to ask if it would be possible to put the remaining engine pieces onto the map and make stabilising the singularity possible so that us new players might be able to experience the majesty of the singularity engine and also give engineering a backup power source for when they inevitably flood the thermoelectric generator with superheated plasma.
You know, it would be interesting if somehow the old singularity engine and the new gas powered one were somehow combined.
Like, if the singularity was created with a certain gas mix being ignited and then feeding it different gasses affected different aspects of it (size, color, strength, stability)
all thats missing is the purple radiation collector thingies that sucked energy out of the sing, im pretty sure.
i guess it wouldnt be too bad so long as players took the time to build a nice long arm off the station to be the new sing containment area, and piped the power in via lots of wiring. that way even when it inevitably gets loose it would need a while to drift to the station, an might even harmlessly drift away
maybe they could think up a way to tie summoning the sing into their solarium puzzles
what i really miss, though, is people abusing emitters to zap people to death. i bet they could really make some nice traps out of those with the help of the new mechanics parts
It'd be more interesting as a derelict. Maybe some sort of prototype PTL powered by a sing/hybrid engine? To make it 'safe' it's GSG could be made like the hemera nuke; 'moveable' only by cloning.

To be perfectly fair, the energy levels created by some hellburns should, by all rights, create a singularity due to the sheer mass that comes along with that energy.

I approve of the production of literal miniature suns.

Clearly, if we're having the idea of changing the size, color, strength and stability of something, why not some sort of miniature star engine? I feel like that's exactly as responsible as Nanotrasen would be, creating a tiny star within their engine to power it. Then we could have stuff like the glamorous sparkly purple star reactor that also explodes if you look at it funny. In addition, I don't think any codebase has done quite that before.
EDIT: Yeah, what Mageziya said. THE STAR ENGINE would be fucking awesome and I think would fit our Shiny Station.

It would also give us a possible use for that particle accelerator engine that was being worked on for a while. We could use it to start the sun engine like a real life inertial confinement fusion reactor.
See, that'd be fucking sweet. Launch particles at it to start the engine and feed gas and possibly some sorts of chems/other fuel to the result to make your own pet star of sorts. Then people could show off how big they got it and how much energy it produced (a factor of its size vs density/color/stability). Obviously, lack of containment could send it on fiery, surging wheels of destruction or, if intentionally overloaded, cause it to go nova. And if you collapse a really fucking powerful one, it becomes a singularity, just as it should be. It would be a combination of both into a thematically exciting thing and a hobby for the engineers to do, trying to make the best/coolest star engine.
Now that I think about it, isn't that kinda what the SOL thing from the adventure zones is all about? (I don't know a whole lot about the telescience adventure zones)
My assumption was that the Solarium was some sort of solar observation vessel, not that they had created a new sun specifically, but I'm actually not sure about that.
Lord knows we found a way to fuck it up either way, though.

Emitters and field generators are actually still in the game, it's just the collectors that aren't as far as i am aware

An engineer has hellburned to make a nice and toasty star.
A traitor sabotages the engine by disabling the security fields.
The miniature star collapses from lack of support.
Depending on its size, it'd either go small-boom, form a miniature neutron star, or form a singularity.
A neutron star is formed.
In routing, not far from the engine, there is a entrepreneuring mechanic loafing to their heart's contents.
They release the loaves.
Out emerges a stranglet loaf.
The stranglet loaf murders the mechanic.
In a one in a million chance, the stranglet loaf's random movement flings it into engineering, and of course, the star chamber.
High level loaves are matter that's so highly compressed that they begin to break physics.
It collides with the neutron star.
Fucking Boom.
Engineering is erased.
This is a good thing.
Shuttle is called.
The end.
On a more serious note, the star engine is great because it's a visual representation of the sheer power that the game's engine makes at times, and has a much greater potential for nightmarish/hilarious applications. The thermoelectric generator is great, but at times doesn't encompass the sheer power it represents. It is, after all, not uncommon for the engine to get hotter than the sun.
