ghost guardbuddy

I know I have not been on very much, because BYOND needed to be updated, but I am back! I have changed, mostly.

I have a rather interesting idea. Remember the MoMMIs from /vg/ and the drones from /tg/station? This idea is kinda like it.

So... my idea is that, if you are a ghost, you have an option of becoming a playable variant of Guardbuddy. As a Guardbuddy, you have three rules.

1. Keep the station safe from intruders.
2. Don't harm the station members.
3. Stay away from things that are too dangerous.

The Guardbuddy can only hold one item, you must follow the Guardbuddy Rules or you might be banned from being a Guardbuddy, Buddies spawn in the Guardbuddy charging room. And guardbuddies can go everywhere. The playable Guardbuddy is connect to the AI, so new laws could be uploaded. Buddies can talk to other buddies, as well.


So, that's my idea. I hope it becomes part of Goonstation, as it seems pretty well thought up. (I don't really know, though.)

There are a couple issues with this, the biggest of which is probably the likelihood of the newly-minted buddy immediately going after the player's murderer.

That said, I would be in favor of players being able to assume control of buddies and other bots - either as a round start choice or by 'jacking in' at robotics.

My list of minor ideas.


THE GOOSE IS LOOSE
You can now create and unleash THE GOOSE! First you will need a vuvuzela, and then a right cyborg arm, attach then together, Eureka! You made THE GOOSE loose!

Honey, I shrunk the Crew!
Now there is a energizer beam in Telesci, you are capable of passing walls for a few seconds. It malfunction 90% of the time, causing you to shrink down to monkey size. You are also very slow when shrunk.

Heavy Headwind
One of the new syndicate items for the Engineer is the Winderizer! It's a giant fan, which blows things away from it really fast! It can also be reversed to become a giant, vacuum plus gibbing machine!

Botanist's best Friend
A new Waterbot can be made by the Roboticist using a water can, a sensor, and a cyborg arm. It will come around the trays, automatically watering the plants. When emagged, It kills the plants by spraying pesticides, It could kill you easily, as well.

Miner Help
The Digbot is back! It, however, is a lot more useful, it can carry minerals to the new Deposit Bay, in the mining station. It is also capable of digging! When Emagged, it will search any wall, and tear it apart with its pickaxe! The wall equivalent to an emagged floorbot, you may say.

I think a human ghost getting ultra mad and coming back from the dead to stalk people with buddies would be funny, but you've basically described the wraith.

Pretty much any time a thing involves interacting with the dead, or the dead coming back to life, it's shot down because some turd will abuse it. Might be funny if there was some gimmick item though, like a Discount dans Luigi (intentional spelling) board that only shows random words ghosts can pick from. Like fart or clown. Also more then one ghost will obviously screw up any one person's chance to communicate with the living, which would be funny. Imagine trying to explain why you died in simple luigi words but someone keeps interjecting fart and clown.

I like my idea because it world make the ghost idea more useful then just spinning chairs for a (after)living until the round ends.

I like this idea. The laws need work, I think, but yeah. It's good. Also I think the Guardbuddy law upload should be in the depot in research rather than in AI upload. Maybe have them work off of individual laws, like the regular guardbuddies do, where they get told to guard someone or patrol an area or something. I think that would help make them unique and not just weird cyborgs.

Also not entirely sure about the whole "just go from a ghost to a buddy whenever" thing. How's this: put a big machine in the Guardbuddy depot. As a human you go stick your head in it at some point and it scans your brain. When you die, it then spits out a buddy that you take over. Maybe the ghost thing could work, though, I do know that they do something like that on other stations.

Making you go use a machine that isn't public access would be helpful in making this idea viable because otherwise every traitor rampage will end with the traitor going down in a hail of syringes fired by the 400 angry wardbuddies following him

Perhaps being a buddy would be too much, though being a bot wouldn't be terrible.

On /tg/, the drones have to follow 3 laws, and they all revolve around humans not existing to them and not interacting with them at all. Might have to set laws up for them similar to that, though it would be neat if they could still be emagged.

That's quite an interesting idea, Although I like my "ghost-to-buddy" approach because it allows dead people to be of use on the station.

Why not a law like "You can't kill your murder or say who he is""??

Make it so the Buddies CAN ONLY react on things they've seen. As in, if you see crime you stop it, you don't get pointed down a corridor or whatever, though you are susceptible to "guard such-and-such" commands that normal Buddies can experience.

On top of that, remove their ability to hear people or comms. They can only communicate with other buddies.

Excellent idea. I'll keep that on mind.
