Make Enriched MSG easier to make.

To be honest, performing blood rituals to get the best flavor enhancer sounds pretty dang funny. Make EMSG worth the effort please

If you feel like EMSG really needs one of the other secret chems to make (it's not powerful enough to warrant that, imo), at least replace Anima with Grog or Energy Drink or something so it fits the wiki hint.

Changing the recipe is not a good solution for complaints like this. If the chem is underpowered for its effort to make, one may want to consider modifying the chem instead of the recipe.

Also, we're not going anywhere near it until we discuss stuff with Huk^3.

The problem is this isn't some ridiculous otherworldly reagent that tears asunder the fabric of reality or causes the destruction of gluons or brings life to the lifeless, it's fancy monosodium glutamate! If you're gonna make the recipe difficult and complex, how about replacing the Anima ingredient with stuff that actually makes sense? Shove more hidden food reagents or something in it? I probably should have named the topic "Make Enriched MSG more logical to make." Changing what it does while leaving the fact it takes Anima still wouldn't make any sense, and not in the fun silly way we expect nonsensical stuff in this game to be.

Yeah, see, here's the problem with your whole "making the chemical should make sense" argument: "Sense" is subjective and depends on the inclusive definition of what makes sense. And, according to goonstation, bees turning into hearts makes sense, deep frying something so hard it turns into a manifestation of the very concept of fried foods makes sense, zombies make sense, sentient monkeys make sense, altering genes in a way that grants telekinetic powers makes sense...

So why doesn't performing ancient alchemical rituals to acquire the best sweetener possible make sense? I mean, if you think about it, the original purpose of alchemy was the use of science powers to turn stuff into other, better stuff, so even in THAT context, it makes sense.

Can we stop pointing at the ridiculous things in the game as a reason something illogical should be fixed? I see this argument a lot, like "Changeling acid spit shouldn't home on people, that doesn't make sense." And then someone says "You can fart on the bible and explode, lol."

Of course this game isn't exactly like reality. Of course there is silly shit that would never work in real life. That doesn't mean the game world doesn't have it's own logic.

Look at it this way. Say you're watching a Road Runner cartoon. Wily Coyote might hover through the air until he looks down, or The Road Runner might run through a realistically painted landscape. That is just how cartoon logic works. But you'd be calling bullshit if they did something like just replace the Road Runner with a giant talking taco.

Turning people's hearts into bees makes sense because it's a pun. Bible farts and fried food make sense because the punchline follows the joke. These work under the same cartoon logic. An obscure ingredient unrelated to everything else in it or the finished product does not.

A very valid point, and I probably could have communicated this better: The overall issue is that the line between what's supposed to "make sense" and what "doesn't make sense" is blurry almost to the point of nonexistence. SS13's nature as a game that's almost permanently in development and has a lot of its content gated off to the average, only fairly experienced player, all calls into question what the hell kind of logic the game's working on in the first place. Science fiction and science non-fiction both have almost equal prominence, there's semi-realistic bleeding mechanics but with magical cure-all charcoal treatments, there are mechanics that emulate real life like the engine and then there's triplepiss. The standard of sense by which we are able to judge the rest of the game is not clear and definable, and that's what makes things like this so difficult, and is also why I'm so quick to accept enriched MSG requiring anima as something that's perfectly logical: Because I don't know what the hell "illogical" is even supposed to BE.

Okay, that's fair. I think Goon severs have historically been the place with a degree of wackyness to counteract the serious roleplayers. I know that line has moved around over the years, though.

Personally, I think the suggestion to change the effects of eMSG to make it more in line with it's exotic ingredient is just as valid a solution as tweaking the ingredients to make it. Make the food it's added to get googly eye overlays and talk to you. Let it regrow limbs like someone else said.

To put this in a different perspective: When one of the ingredients (albeit the most foreign ingredient of them all) of a chemical is leagues cooler and more novel than the chemical itself, that's not a very good sign at all.

Suggestion:


Have Enriched Msg work are a weak mindslave. When someone is introduced to said chemical they are given the objective to do ANYTHING for more of said chemical. This makes them a mindslave of sorts to the drug itself. They COULD kill the owner of the drug or they can do what the owner tells them too in hopes that could gain more of said drug. The withdrawl should also be pretty deadly to stop the dude with the chemical from injecting everyone with 1 unit of the chemical and making them slaves to the drug
