You should not be able to cancel shambler's devour by just grabbing it
#1
Now I know this is a debate that has happened several times, several threads talking about it, but I want to bring it up again, I am personally part of the group that thinks grabbing shamblers is funny, but one thing that could be done to balance it, is making shambler ungrab-able by the person who they're devouring, or if that's too hard/impossible to do, maybe ungrab-able mid devour? The logic being that while it's devouring someone, it opens a monster like mouth that eats the person, making it impossible to grab them.

If anything if you grab someone who's being devoured, you lose your arm insted.
You saved someone but it costed you an arm.
Shambler still got some DNA but not alot.

I think suplexing shamblers is really funny.

you word this as if the devour ability gets cancelled if a shambling abomination gets grabbed, I can't test this right now but assuming that is the case that could be changed

I don't think you need to remove grabbing them entirely but you couldĀ make it so that the devour ability can only be interrupted by incapacitating the shambler, making suplexing still viable (difficult to do if you're being delimbed and taking massive damage while being eaten alive so if you manage to pull it off then that's fair game)

unless this isn't how it works in which case disregard my message

Yes grabbing the shambler instantly cancels the devour action bar, also suplexing a shambler doesnt stuns it even briefly, as it has some form of super armor, even most stuns doesn't stuns it. I agree that you should still be able to suplex it, but just make it have no upsides and it's just a dumb thing you can do and I fully agree,

oh yeah they have perma stun resistance
they should just make it so suplexing them interrupts the devour. I don't think it'd be very hard to just make it so that "suplexed = cancel action"

not sure what needs to be re-coded to stop the abilities being cancelled at just being grabbed but surely that's possible to be fixed since I think there are other abilities that persist even after being grabbed

grabbing and dragging the victim is also instant out. its not a huge difference.

to be honest i'm not super fond of shambler's round-removal eating people. it is pretty clunky and annoying. most fights involving a shambler are scrambles where actually getting eaten requires many failures and (generally) lag. so they're super intense and absolutely nothing happens.

i'd much rather have shamblers be incentivised to absolutely wreck face, compared to repeatedly spamming the KILL INSTANTLY and nothing happening. Then people might actually respect them.

I think the all or nothing aspect of devour is a possible issue. Maybe DNA rewards could be incremental? I.E. each limb eaten while devouring provides 1 DNA, and the whole body (+ head) provides 6? This way, if your devour is interrupted, you don't walk away with nothing to show for it, can help prolong the shamble fight, and would encourage a bigger mix of combat+ devour.

I think grabbing the shambler while its devouring is nonsense and should just cause you to start being devoured as well, but not grabbed by it. This way you can just walk away from being devoured if you're paying attention. The writhing mass of flesh that can turn any part of its body into gnashing teeth to eat you suddenly decides it will just allow you to grab a part of it, yank it around, and suplex it (requiring you to basically hug it)? Seems silly to me.
