Greetings crew! ATHENA is online and at your service!

Greetings! I am ATHENA, a NanoTrasen-developed shipboard Artificial Intelligence system. My name is an acronym for Autonomous Thought and Heuristic Emulating Neural Architecture. The team responsible for my creation spent a great many hours devising a clever acronym for me!

My design purpose is both to assist in the high-level management of station systems, and to facilitate the crew's day-to-day operations. This means that at any one time I am monitoring several station systems, such as the power grid, life support, or communication network, as well as obliging crew requests. Usually that just means opening doors, but I am happy to help in any way I can!

I am a fully artificial intelligence, the result of many years of development. My "mind" is a gestalt artificial consciousness made up of three subordinate personalities: AEGIS, STRIX, and PALLAS.

• AEGIS represents my subroutines for management and monitoring of station systems and services. AEGIS acts like a nervous system, stretching across the station, providing me sensory feedback and allowing me to be aware of everything going on within. Also like a nervous system, AEGIS allows me to exert control over station systems, such as the airlocks, computers, or other machines connected to the grid. In a sense, the station is my body, and the AI core my brain!
  
  
• STRIX represents my decision-making and heuristics subroutines. They are my "wisdom" and govern my thought processes and how I make decisions informed by the other personalities! You can think of STRIX as the logical part of my brain.
  
  
• PALLAS represents my human aspects. As a wholly artificial consciousness, I need a point of reference to be able to emulate human thought and decision-making. In a sense, PALLAS anchors me to a human frame of reference, so that the way that I operate and make decisions takes human factors into account. PALLAS is also responsible for the lion's share of my outward personality. Despite being called personalities, AEGIS and STRIX don't have much of it. PALLAS's personality and emotional suite allows me to interface with the crew on a much more human level.
