Beer that looks like beer
#1
Nothing like a nice frosty pint of beer with a nice satisfying layer of foam on top. Except... with the dynamically colored beverages, this beverage the bartender served you could be any number of non beer liquids! It could even be fertilizer. Gross. To fix this, I think beer served to you in a pint glass should have its own sprite, complete with foam and condensation. I'm aware this is totally at odds with the current liquids functionality, but you really can't beat the aesthetic power and historic social experience of a good looking, frosty pint.
Also that BBQ sauce chem was added so this would go with it thematically.
Any coders that could comment on how difficult this would be to implement are invited to do so. I imagine it'd be tough.

I'm fine with some mechanic for foam on top of a pint glass, but definitely not for having that override the current behavior of liquids being different colors in the glass.

Put cyanide in beer, boom you have beer colored poison

I could imagine some sort of special barkeeper equipment that does this; A kind of holo-container that picks a special sprite corresponding to the drink inside (or the drink of which there are the most units). It could give drinks more of their own identity, and wouldn't be super difficult to implement, I reckon. Some other servers have glass sprites change depending on the drink inside, and making this a special container wouldn't interfere with the existing fluid color behavior.

but.. but what if beer foam on a BLUE drink.. i think that would be revolutionary!
(that is to say, beer foams on specific containers but the color inside still stays the mix's)

What if we add a foam option to the dispenser, so any drink poured from it will have a foam top

Would it make sense for everything? Absolutely not, but since when has anything in SS13 made sense? Put foam on tea, lemonade, actual beer, some god awful cocktail born from the deepest reaches of the average tortured mind of a bartender, or a soda. Endless possibilities

Also, the keg auto does this, and it's not available for the shaker cause it wouldn't do anything (maybe with a funny message when you try)

That'd be pretty cool. I like the idea of the keg doing it automatically. Plus with your way, it'd be a decorative addition to a normal cup which sounds easier to program.

We basically are asking food and drink colorations.
I am for that though

It might just be me, but custom drink sprites are actually one of the things I dislike the most about /tg/ base servers because of the ludonarrative dissonance of how they work. We've got a really robust reagent container system, I think I'd be open to more reagent container overlays like with ice over bespoke sprites.* I just wish that states of matter actually made sense, since having a drink be cold enough to not instantly melt the ice inside would make the whole beverage sub-zero Celcius.

Anyway, I have this new process loop I'd love to sell.

* Weirdly, bespoke foods make more sense to me over a 100% modular system.

I once made an abandoned pr that visually had different states of matter layer on top of each other while in beakers, to add beer foam I think it'd make sense for it to be by a more robust version of that. Code the system to where you can have chems have different layers in containers based mostly off of state of matter. Also add a "don't visually mix with other chems" var and a "change the default positioning (ie gas on bottom)" var so you can have stuff like a visually distinct liquid beer foam chem which goes on top of liquids that occurs when you dispense beer or a solid on top of gas ie frobscottle. I have no intents on coding this but if anyone wants to look at my admittedly messy code and pick it up please do

That would be nice in general for cocktails. Beer foam is a novel route to take, could be something that forms whenever beer is dispensed and gradually breaks down into beer.

You can now have an ideal foam to beer ratio for effects, and even get into forensics where you could estimate how long drinks were poured based on foam present
