One minor change to the hidden workshop azone.

Please for fuck's sake add an empty katana sheath in the forging room so you can sheath the blade you make to carry it in a less cumbersome manner + look cool with it on your hip.

(also I feel that the handcrafted katana could do with a buff or some sort of unique effect to better justify the amount of time it takes to make)

I guess a sheet (rather more) would definitely make sense, let SCI cosplay a bit.

I don't know about a buff, for one I don't got the stats currently in the back of my mind and for the other, I mean only scientists that most likely aren't even antags will run around with it.
Yes we got a rule for Azones, but it could be a spared headache for the admins.

The real deal is a 7 TC Traitor item, it shouldn't be remotely close to its combat capabilities in comparison, but a reskin of a scalpel would be a bit mean considering the effort.

Space glue it to your body. I did.

The lack of a sheath is intended, to my knowledge.

Sad. I still think it'd be better with a sheath, holding it makes beepskys aggro on you, and the moment you set it down someone else is bound to try and take it.

If it gets buffed, I still don't think it should come anywhere near the traitor katana. I feel my ideal change would be an effect where only the person who made it can hold it, so sec, or worse, an antag, can't just take it and put it in a contra locker/start attacking people with it

honestly i prefer it not getting a sheath, keeps it far further from being anything like the traitor katana.

Definitely think it doesn't need a buff, and even with your idea of making it only usable by the person who made it wouldn't really solve the issue. Since the issue isn't antags using it, the issue would be people who ARENT antags using it.

The price you pay, my man. Get it stickered!

That runs the risk of security/relevant command saying "No" and taking it anyway, but yeah thats really the best course of action other than asking HoP for a weapon permit

You can always just clear it with the captain and get a sticker *before* you go.

Even with a sticker that sonofabitch is always gonna be taking up one of your two hand slots because you know someone's gonna steal it once you set it down

I must remind you that glue solves this problem

No sheath is the best way of playing this, imo. It requires time and investment, and is a fun little side project for those interested. I would much rather not run into a situation where an antag decides to go there, make the katana, has an easy way of storing it/hiding it to prevent it being stolen, buys two boxes of stims, then goes on a Katana-stim rampage. I mean, they can already do that exact strategy, just they don't have a sheath, making it harder for them to hide it, and easier to take it from them at an inopportune time.

The reason it lacks a sheath to my knowledge from the times this topic has been brought up is largely due to being an azone item, it is supposed to be a novelty, an "I did it!" sticker for a thing you do once every blue moon for fun (The fun there being highly disputable but that's a different thing). I do not agree with the statements labelling this a balance concern for possible rampagers, the makeshift katanas frankly suck ass for the time commitment and many other disadvantages they come with not to mention the easier and genuinely better alternatives in scrap weapons, spears, station loot, debris/asteroid field loot, most antag options.

It's supposed to be novel, not having a sheath causes inconvenience, inconvenience discourages overuse, the item stays novel. Adding a sheath in will just make it more likely to see people with one every other round they play lessening the novelty.

Danger Noodle sums it up reasonably well. The hidden workshop katana is not meant to be an effective weapon, it's meant to be a cool thing you do because you can. It only needs to be worth doing once for the novelty, not worth doing for the specific purpose of having a sword to use.

It's like, part of going to a theme park. Come to the cool aesthetic azone! Have a souvenir!

Exactly this. The workshop is an easy accesiable and chill Azone. If you can make an actual weapon with use... it will make spotting katana antagonists harder AAAAND...
It would make people meta game for it. Want a weapon? Go to science, find the workshop on the telescope wich mostly arrives in the 1st 10 mins, spend some minutes making the katana, come back... now you are on par with an antagonist.

I'd be hell for security, I'd be hell for antags, I'd be hell for normal staffies who are making them.

Keep em gimmicky.
