Goonstation Spring 2025 Seasonal Contest
#1
Hello everybody, and welcome to the 2025 Goonstation Spring Seasonal Contest. This spring season, we (well, ZeWaka and I, with some help from Sovexe and yass) are doing something very different from our previous contests: a Easter egg hunt!

Eugene "Sheggsphere" William has stowed away 13 eggs in various locations and has tasked each crew member with finding them for festive cheer/his personal amusement. Seven eggs are in adventure zone areas, while the other six are hidden in Trench prefabs and other areas that are randomly selected and placed each round. To put it in another way, there are 13 possible locations, but not every location appears each round. Each location has multiple copies of each egg, with more for areas that are especially difficult to get to/don't always appear in every round.

Once you find an egg, pick it up and go to the couplet-dropping NPC Eugene "Sheggsphere" William. He's usually in Arrivals or some other public area. In fact, in an impressive bit of reuse, ZeWaka has placed him at the spot where the Spacemas tree normally appears during the holiday season. Click on him, and you should see an option to turn in an egg.

Sheggsphere can also give you hints on where to find each egg, list which eggs you have so far, and show you which ones you still need to turn in.He can also give you an in-character summary of what this contest is about, which mostly exists for people who encounter him without reading this thread first.

Progress is tracked on an individual basis, so you're competing with every other player. It is also saved between rounds. You'll need it: some eggs are in water areas, and some are in space areas, so you must collect them across multiple rounds.

a fancy greater domestic space-bee What are the prizes?

The first time you turn in an egg, you get the "Fun Times" medal (if you haven't gotten it already). This medal allows you to become a living participation ribbon as a ghost by using Check Medal Rewards. You may have noticed that this time, the medal is given out automatically. Not only does that save me some work, but it also means you get your reward immediately, rather than waiting for an admin to give it out.

If you return all 13 eggs, you get the "Too Cool" medal, which lets you use "shelterbee" (replace those quotation marks with colons, and you get this shelterbee ) in-game and in OOC. Again, you should gain the medal automatically. But just because it's automatic, that doesn't mean you can afford to procrastinate. For this contest, only nine people in total can win, three per server. That's three winners for Heisenbee, three for Morty, etc. Egg tracking data is cross-server, so you can start your egg hunt on Morty and finish it on Sylvester.

People who win the "Too Cool" medal are also entitled to a free sticker from Gannets. Your possible options include: an AI core, Dr. Acula, the Goonstation logo (in both the classic yellow and pride color schemes) a happy little mentor mouse, a NanoTrasen patch, and a Syndicate Nuclear Operative patch. You can preview most of these stickers on his bigcartel storefront.

You do NOT get the sticker automatically. You have to join our Discord and message Gannets about it. You'll also need to wait until all the winners are announced. This helps reduce the amount of trips to the post office for auld lang Gannets.

fat and sassy space-bee When does the contest end?

The contest ends as soon as we have nine winners. In other words, while the contest is an Easter egg hunt, it does not end when Easter ends.

I don't expect this to happen, but if the contest goes on for too long (as in, the summer solstice has passed) without any winners, I reserve the right to end it. How I dole out the remaining prizes will depend on the circumstances. I will probably give out medals and arrange sticker requests for the people closest to getting all thirteen eggs. But again, I don't foresee this being an issue.

jons the catte Are the eggs secret?

The locations of the eggs fall under secret content rules. Ergo, you can tell people you're hunting for the contest eggs and have people join you, but saying everyone over the radio that you found such-and-such egg at so-and-so location is a no-no. (If someone requests information where to find an egg over Discord DMs or through our #imspoiler channel, you can still tell them.) The egg themselves are not secret—it'd probably be a little too hard if they were.

space goose What if I have a question/comment?

If it's something urgent, or if you're worried your question might compromise secret content rules, your best bet is to go to our Discord (if you aren't there already), open up a DM with MedicalAssistant, and enter the ]report command. All reports are private; only you and the admin team can see them. If you can afford to wait, you can post your question in this thread.

You can also use this thread to share feedback, discuss your experiences, etc. This is the first time we've done an event like this, so any comments, constructive criticisms, etc. are appreciated. In addition, you don't need to submit anything through this thread; the NPC exists specifically so people don't have to do that!

Give all your kudos to ZeWaka! While the contest was my idea, he did the all the actual code work to make it happen, wrestling with the dialogue system and casting some truly cursed code spells to make the egg placements work. Thanks to his hard work, incredible programming skills (supplemented by some advice from Sov), and infinite patience with me and my dumb butt, we're able to host a Goonstation contest unlike any others before. (I did draw all the sprites and wrote almost all the lines and egg descriptions, so if you love/hate them, thank/curse me.)

My only concern / feedback for this idea is that, whilst it is neat and different. The problem is it feels like for some crew and / or antag roles. It makes it harder to play during this. As everyone is looking for the eggs, so you can't particularly do as much for it either. I feel like it could hinder the experience to a degree?
