Probably shitty idea, but maybe nanotrasen security assistant? Keeps the clarification of this job is to help, however doesnt have the paperwork residue of consultant (also being able to call NTSC Secasses seems funny.) Though could easily lead to confusion between the two roles during the round but people use the acronym mostly anyways so I dont think thisll be a big issue. Nanotrasen security advisor may be good as well but may be too framed as solely a teacher/overseer role instead of someone to help in general.

How about NanoTrasen Senior Officer?
Failing that, NanoTrasen Security Specialist, if you want something that still sounds non-paramilitary but still tacticool.

The entire point of the change was to make it less confusing to talk about the latejoin NT sec and the NT squad that get laser rifles which admins can enable. Yass wanted the squad version to be shortened to NTSO and change the abbreviation of the latejoin job. --snip-- This is a fairly accurate summary, yes

I agree entirely with IKEA’s point on this, there is also this weird task that often happens on RP where you see someone get HOS’d, and they just never play officer again. Like to the point you see them cryo out if they get outroll’d for HoS. I’ve asked about it and the wider part of the justification is “HoS gets a lot more interaction than normal officers so it’s understandable to not want to play officer again” <- response from an admin. Like, on RP, people get a lot more serious and get themselves burnt out on sec, to the point they see it more as a responsibility and less as a fun job. I think this culture on RP of HoS being the ‘high responsibility high interaction’ role while NTSO being the ‘independent/low responsibility’ role further leads credence to all the points IKEA made.
Also, while we are SS13, people tend to have negative connotations to the abbreviations SS because of the SS of Nazi Germany. NTSS as a job just sounds like an NT division of the SS and I’m sorry but that’s really the only way it sounds. We already have the SS abbreviation as space station. The fact it keeps coming back up concerns me deeply
Final point, while the job name doesn’t change how those playing it will play it, it will change how current and new players see it, with a higher emphasis on the new players who learn how to play with/against the NTSC

Yes, I think people not liking name change is a bit overblown. I think consultant is cool (personally) because it has an ironic disconnect between what you would normally think of (a dude at a desk) and what they actually are (a security officer that is trusted by the HoS to help out when things get rough). On top of that their kit is completely untouched.

Which admin? Searching this phrase on the discord doesn't bring up anything.

legitimately I think NERD (Nanotrasen Emergency Response Detail) is the strongest proposed name I've seen so far by a landslide. not only does it still sound reasonable considering the role's responsibilities and kit, but it also undermines the Cool Militaristic Lone Vigilante thing beautifully since people can just go "shut up nerd" and you literally cannot tell them they're wrong

just chiming in to say, big fan of NERD. i don't think the thread is massively overblown since in the end its just a few people spending a minute or two typing here and there.
edit: never mind, i just saw the huge paragraphs in the previous page, ooer
most of the HoSes are experienced/frequent enough to know the light-heartedness of goon overall and supercop NTSOs, i've been one myself on occasion. the job title being NERD seems light hearted and appropriate to cull the percieved super-badassery of it.

We aren't going to call a role "NERD". That's mean spirited and unnecessary.

Edit Reason: On further inspection, Security Sargent would be awful
)
Maybe instead of undermining the tacticool supercop vibes through silly names, undermine it by ditching the tacticool supercop equipment?
Ditch the direct NT association, and change the job to Officer+. It'll be hard to find a title without going militaristic, but it can be balanced by removing the overtly militaristic equipment. Instead of the NTSO, with lethals, distinct armor and weapons, SWAT gloves and turtlenecks, we'd have the Security Lieutenant, with a slightly fancier uniform and perhaps an extendable baton.
Alternatively, change consultant to Commissioner.

Anything "NT-SS" is a hard no. Absolutely not.
I'm strongly leaning towards "Liaison" myself. NT Security Liaison or NT Liaison Officer.
It's a pretty versatile term that implies that they're here more to help out the crew than to be tacticool rambos.

Personally I'd like to see the Fancy Blue NT security job (liason or consultant or whatever) head off-station more too. HoS and Guards shouldn't be abandoning the station, but blue person could be the Heavy for your adventure teams off-station or combat air patrol in the debris field or stuff like that. Would like to see them supporting and encouraging more PVE than going hard on PVP.

How about Nanotrasen Security Adjutant?
An Adjutant is a military officer who acts as an administrative assistant to a senior officer. Just do the Star Trek thing where NT has adopted military ranks

I like the Security Adjutant idea but
why do we even keep the NT in the name ? Like, alot of suggestion are NT "something". Why not just keep it simple like Security Advisor, Security Consultant, Security Expert, or even Security Specialist ?
