Mindslave implants need an overhaul

What, for being robust?

Being targeted for mindslaves is a direct and completely forseeable consequence of a certain playstyle shared by the people who keep getting targeted.  If you want to powergame 24/7 go ahead, but don't whine when people consider you a prime mindslave target.

it's the meta, but it's not fun to *be* the meta when the meta is to mindslave you.

you call it a playing field leveller, but when everyone has the same plan it leads to high intensity burnout for everyone involved

They made that bed, they can lie in it IMO.

Being robust is not 1:1 with powergaming.  The entire problem this thread is addressing is, in fact, that robust-but-not-powergamers are being forced into powergaming by powergamers (who usually aren't robust themselves).

There are players that are such a huge threat when you are an antag - that even trying to pull any sort of gimmick will get you eliminated in a heartbeat.

Mindslaving those to play along or just not worry about being a target for well known validhunters - well - that is what the mindslave implant is for.

The change to require combat? Nah.
It defeats the whole purpose of it being sneaky.

If the same few people get mindslaved again and again - well - I bet those are the people I have in mind that always carry a plate, manage to pull it out in 0.1 seconds; smack it over ya'head and wear SecHUDs in addition to that.

I am completely against any change to mindslave implants. The latest nerf was to be unable to easily convert the HoS. Fine.
Now a change to make it difficult to convert anyone without risking security ambushing you or the powergaming validhunters being informed over radio once you initiate the combat that requires mindslaving with the proposed change?

Why should I mindslave somebody that called me out ten seconds prior? Not like those same nerds couldn't link evidence A and B to forge conclusion C - eh?

A powergamer who is not robust is simply not a powergamer - cause where is the power in the gaming?

Anyhow - if you play long enough to have your name shake up the nerve connections inside an antags head with violent fear - then expect being turned.

Or how about you stay at least one tile away from everybody and act like it is a changeling round?
Be paranoid.
Be aware.
Walk in groups.
Communicate with others.

This is a social game.

If you make it work like a flash you are making captain, sec and powergamers immune as getting flash resist is fairly important and eye slots aren't really in demand for anything except flash resist.
Would also make it very hard to flash those people without them radioing mindslave as soon as they are stunned and having their glasses removed.

Not that it's easy for the crew to stun anyone as stun equipment is exclusive to captain/sec and knockout chems have obvious tells.

Im not against it being harder to mindslave sec and captain, considering how valuble those targets are.

Being forced to beat the shit out of your target means the implant gun as a potential risky mindslaver becomes impossible to do.

As I mentioned before, if people constantly being targeted don't WANT to be targeted by mindslavers, whether because they're terrifying in combat or because they like to valid hunt even the most harmless gimmicks possible, they can randomize.

It's hard to target someone on sight if they're a different person every round.

Maybe loyalty implants could short out mindslave implants? Would give em a use outside of rev rounds

Fun to spend TC on an implant for it to seemingly not work for no reason discernible at all.

Anyhow - there is nothing wrong with mindslaves at the moment.
The HoS being immune is quite enough.

To the people going “oh yeah these robust players getting mindslaved every roujd is there own fault because they rampage”, quick question, do you enjoy them rampaging every round? Or would it be in your best interest to promote ways which they cant rampage every round (aka making it harder for them to get antag status by making them being mindslaved being harder).

Yeah this was a weird point to me. You.. DON'T want these dudes getting antag, actually.

So weve moved from giving these people a break from getting mindslaved to blaming them for getting mindslaved?

Thing is - if you don't actually mindslave some specific players you are bound to face validhunters with a skill level that will likely be higher than your own.

Being a prime mindslave target is a direct and easily foreseeable consequence of consistently playing in a fashion that makes the game less fun for everyone but you.  If you are finding it unfun or unpleasant to be constantly targeted by mindslave implants, then congratulations!  You're finally experiencing a tiny fraction of what you've inflicted on the rest of the playerbase round after round!

To paraphrase the common admin response to people not liking rampages, go play on RP if you're sick of getting mindslaved.
