Instead of making the lock interface accessible through opening the maintenance hatch and operating the lock through that, make the lock interface show up whenever you try to board or click on a locked pod.

No, no it was. Is it possible that the lock grumped out and somehow resulted in a locked pod with no actual lock or something?

That's entirely possible! This thread can be locked now. Pod locks work just as they should, and BYOND sometimes does wacky things.
