Maybe it could also have a slim chance to grant you explosion resistance, nethack style. As opposed to instantly killing you and anyone nearby.

I also have a feeling that your suit might protect you from the blast, ya know, the one coming from within you. Maybe if your suit would've protected you, it'd be all that's left after the blast, and spill out a bunch of guts and ash when picked up.
