Cyborg quick part swapper in docks
#1
This one's pretty simple. An issue many cyborgs face is that they want to be upgraded as time goes on, but there's often no roboticist, or the only roboticist has no idea how to do that, or gets easily distracted.
So, what if you could put different parts in docking stations, including heads and chests, and have them quickly swap out pieces in a cyborg without booting the player to ghost state? Could also be interesting if you could do it with brains, like if there's several AI shells, but more players start to become available for borg roles.

I can maybe see this being a thing if the roboticist needs to prepare it.

Roboticist suffer from a "they have nothign to do after 20 minutes", as a recent thread discusses. I dont really thing taking even more of their work to be automated by cyborgs is a good idea. If there are no roboticist you can even ask any other medical staff for help. And if they dont know you can just explain it.

I dunno, I see cyborgs regularly go an entire round without a single part upgrade, simply because there's nobody around to do it.

This sounds like a low-pop issue and not a game design issue but i don't know what servers you play on

Cyborgs can ask any other crew member to help out. I’m a silicon player along with roboticist, but I don’t think we should be making them MORE independent. It’s not too hard to converse with the crew - even on lowpop - to ask for help! It’s a great way to start conversation and maybe teach something to a new or inexperienced person regarding robotics! Also— keep in mind as a cyborg you have AA, so even if there is no one in medical to help, you can let ANYBODY in to do part swaps. It’s a good way to get some interaction on lowpop too!

I don't think I really stress this point well. Especially in lowpop of like 5 people, everyone is doing their own thing. They will either ignore or refuse your requests. Always what I see.

Well I'm sorry to say it but if you play lowpop you get lowpop.

I don't exactly have much of a choice.

The rp-servers do get up there but yes I do understand that classic is pretty barren right now. However I don't think gameplay desicions should be made for lowpop since it would negatively affect the bigger playerbases.

Then maybe some variables could help. For example, other codebases can configure a certain player count threshold. If the player count is below the threshold, then certain doors will have their ID access removed, or prefab tools will be different, something like that. What stops goon from having lowpop contingencies?

if you wanna PR it nobody can stop you but like... I dunno man at this point it just seems like you would be happier with a singleplayer game. ss13's all about emergent gameplay and you need to accept that you're going to have to interact with other people to get it

It's fascinsting how RP and classic do differentiate here. RP lowpop makes people grouphug in an attempt to RP, so you get more interaction than on highpop.
