I searched the forms and didn't see anything mentioning this, but I was thinking something similar to a combination of phone/printer. the location is chosen on a UI, as well as a place to write, then it is sent to the receiving end. 

this would be super useful for roles like cargo, when food is needed from the kitchen, or parts needed from medbay. it could possibly be linked to a scanner much like the printer, maybe have an outlet in many rooms but a scanner in places like computer room/command/cargo?

Do you think we could make the phones simply do this task? or have them make a printout? or do you see this as a seperate object to the phones?

ooh honestly that sounds cool, I don't know honestly! I was just throwing the idea out there, sometimes you need to get a message to a department that is more physical than a phone call without going down there to hand them the paper yourself!
