spectating as ghosts should allow you to see "windows" as the as the person youre spe

Have you had a time when youre spectating an antag, he sits near a computer and opens sec-mate or something like that? All spectators see is them sitting near a computer. I think spectators should sse what theyre doing, and i think they should be able to move the windows around. I also think that they should see this as hivemind members. Im not saying that you should see things like who the hivemind master made into a leg, but you should see who that ling set to arrest or what is that traitor doing on his pda(but not what message did he send maybe)

Would require a lot of refactoring to be done properly. Doesn't seem to be worth the effort imo.

We already have being able to open computer windows for mentor mice, it seems like it'd be easy to extend to regular spectators.
In fact, ZeWaka even halfway suggested something like this on my PR, I think?
So we could at least partially get there.

I wonder how that garbage code of mine interacts with fingerprints and stuff. 🤔

I am just worried about some people being like, "Now people will steal my scripts!".

The main thing this would be used for is spectating scientists every round till one of them makes secret chems.

I thought this was gonna be that you'd see the ghosts watching you in the reflections on glass windows

Chem dispensers could easily not be included, doing it for all kinds of UI may be unrealistic, but certain stuff like computers could be nice.

Secret chems aren't top secret, it's more of a spoilers policy that allows chem to have their own puzzles and incentivises them to socialise. You can look spoiler lists up right now and get them if you really want them, especially after the gooncode leak they're easy to find. People don't do this because solving the puzzles for themselves is more fun.

When hunting for new secret chems, the last thing you want to worry about is ghosts being able to see everything you do. When I hunt, I already have to take precautions to never use reagent scanners as certain people will use that to snoop the recipie.

I mean, it's not like secret chems are particularly secret anymore, what with #imspoiler and open source and stuff. I guess they're secret by choice now, rather then design. I remember a similar discussion coming up years ago and the consensus was no back then as well precisely due to secrets, but considering the cultural changes since then I wonder if it's still as potent an argument as it used to be.

One thing that might be a consideration is accidental spoilers for content. For instance, people observing an antagonist scientist who's blowing shit up and doing cool shit, and seeing their id-bound chemgroup for rajaijah in the dispenser.

Either way, I can agree that things like terminals are almost certainly harmless. The question is just how hard it would be to adapt how it works for mentor mice to ghosts, and if it turns out to be a pain in the ass, if it's worth bothering with at all.

I love the idea and think it'd be a great improvement. Teaching newbies how to make medicine or specific chems quickly would be a lot simpler if they could snoop, and there's legitimate uses for teaching mobs that can't open chem dispensor windows themselves (borgs, ghostcritters and deceased telesci buddies who need to be taught posthumously how to patch themselves up).

idk how feasible this would be with tgui, but if we wanted to make those available as well, chem dispensers could have a toggleable "privacy hood" or something

I said hunting for new chems. I know most of the old chems are publicily availble, but when you finally find a very recently added chem, and then realize 5 hours later someone who was snooping all round posted/publicizied a video showing how to get said chem, it doesnt feel very good.

You really shouldn't feel cheated out of an experience by that, experimenting with the chem system is its own reward. It's why most of the secret chems suck in gameplay.

Aren't even the new chems discussed in #imspoiler? People were talking about there being a marteeny hint thread in there at some point, and I'm pretty sure marteeny was added within the past couple of months or so. I don't personally use the spoiler channel, so maybe someone who does could add some context.

That is something to decide for themselves, having found the cool new chem and being among the select few who know how to do it and showing off its fun effects is arguably better of a reward.
It's a right for players to want what they do to remain private if that's what they desire. It can be seen anyway by busting in and looking at the screen as another crewmember or as the AI, but that's a manageable risk they can control and are willing to take, unlike having someone effortlessly just peep at what they're doing and steal some DWAINE program or special death mix that can be then be spread and spammed until nerfed.
