Essentially a remote or PDA program that would be used to remotely interface with a bot, such as a floorbot. This would also allow for summoning of said bot, or to change its configuration and status.
Naturally the control of a bot would depend on the remote or the program. The MD would have the Medibots remote and the PDA program for the medibot remote, but the CE probably wouldn't, while the CE and engineers would have floorbot control and the MD wouldn't.

This would also allow the AI to control and summon bots, possibly taking an unused cleanbot to clean somewhere the janitor is neglecting, or to patch a breach with a floorbot, or bringing spare medibots from robotics to the various departments.

 Thoughts?

what about goggles that let you take direct control of the bot, EOD remote control style

following up my comment with more details to really sell the punch:
picture the brig full of inmates remotely extinguishing an engine fire to earn their freedom.
picture a team of engineers sitting in the bar while they fix a breach in QM.
 picture the clown.
picture a medibot spacewalking and keeping exposed spacemen in shalow crit long enough to be rescued.

edit: actually floorbot almost works like a ghost drone in this way which is cool. and bonus it makes people using the EOD remotes really easy to kill. extra bonus if you kill them with an emagged bot

Direct control with sort of VR goggles would also be really cool, yeah! I also think it would be really nice if the AI could directly control bots as well. There should also be some way to 'kick' someone out of a bot, perhaps Head/AI level control? Or maybe the AI has total authority over the bots, though it tells players when they're being kicked out and kicking out people should have a cooldown if it gets abused by rogue AIs and basically makes the human operated stuff worthless.
((also the ai should be able to enter VR and hang out with the crew but that's something for another thread))

Direct control is great and all, but just being able to summon bots effectively is something that would be useful

Bots certainly take their sweet time responding to calls. It already takes ages for Beepsky to roll its metal butt down a hallway, I don't see any of the other bots getting the lead out any more effectively. Direct control might be the answer to their lacking emergency protocol.

Also a side note, I've never seen a firebot actually extinguish something. Sure, they stroll up to you and make reassuring whooshing noises, but it's kinda hard to tell if it's effective since whatever they're extinguishing tends to die and burn out themselves.

Maybe having bots move faster would also be nice to have. Not by a whole lot, especially Securitrons (though Securitrons with tasers instead of stun batons would be fun to have, a bit like Robuddies but functioning like a bot and not a DWAINE controlled box on wheels), but things like floorbots and cleanbots and firebots should move and work fast enough to actually have an impact but not so fast that they're OP. At the very least, when they're summoned and in-transit, they should move at the walking speed of a person (or at the speed of an angered Beepsky).
Though this is a separate issue which warrants its own thread, it does make an impact on how effective these bots would be if summoned or controlled.
