I can't see anything out of Arrival / White Screen Bug
#16
This also used to happen with my computer using a GTX 560 if I had the screen locked when rounds would change over.

According to my experience, A cold restart (where one shuts down the computer, waits for the hard-drive to stop spinning, count to 10 and power back on) Fixed it. It could also be caused by a conflict with Windows Update wanting you to restart so it can apply the updates.

I shall try and replicate this bug. Maybe it has to deal with Windows 10.

Here is a simple explanation to "why" this happens.
  • This only happens if BYOND fails to use hardware accelerated mode.
  • This is due to the fact that the lighting system on goonstation uses the 'blend_mode' variable on overlays to make the lighting smooth-ish
  • If BYOND fails to use hardware accelerated mode, you will see a 50 shades of white station.
  • This can be caused by a lot of things, faulty hardware, wonky drivers, the setting not being set, and a lot of other things really.. welcome to the wonderful world of :byond:

Now, how do i solve this?
  • Exit out of any BYOND game you might be playing.
  • Go into the BYOND settings by clicking the gear icon on the top right (https://i.imgur.com/vKZhehS.png)
  • Select the "Use graphics hardware for displaying maps" option (https://i.imgur.com/kGPqE5e.png)
  • While you're at it, click the Clear Cache button once, to clear up the BYOND cache.

This should resolve the problems you are having, does this NOT solve the problem? Then try and check the following things.
  • Ensure your video card drivers are up to date.
  • Ensure your BYOND version is up to date.
  • Ensure your OS is not running in "Safe Mode"
  • Restart your computer and try again.
  • Ensure your OS is actually working properly.
  • Ensure your video card drivers are actually working properly.
  • Ensure your video card itself is working properly.

If this does not solve the problem, file a bug report here: http://www.byond.com/forum/?forum=5 and include the make/model of your graphics card, and other relevant information.
