Usual character name: Hunter Vask and Avoids-eye-contact (but the one being HoS will be Hunter if this gets approved)
BYOND username: Astarthoc
Discord username (if you are on our discord): astarthoc
Goon servers you play: Mostly 4 but sometimes 3
Reason for application:
I discovered this wonderful game in the goonstation branch approximately one year ago and I have loved it from the first shift. I have played every position (or at least most of them) with Hunter and my other characters (Botany Cumberpants and Avoids-eye-contact) and I especially liked the head of departaments because it mixes the gameplay of the department with having a team and the command responsibilities. I think the HoS position is a chance to develop amazing RP scenes and also I would like to have the chance to lead a security team.
Security experience (300 word minimum):
Playing as Botany Cumberpants and Hunter Vask I have gone through every security work. I have been a security assistant, sitting in the front desk, attending to anyone coming to the front desk updating the records and trying to coordinate the information i got in the sec radio.
I have played as detective, going anywhere security or anyone calls you to investigate, taking the prints, following the hints and asking my hat to give me cigarettes while I twirl my cool revolver while I embrace the gimmick of the noir external contractor.
But undoubtedly the role of security I have most played is officer. I have dealt with both actual antag and crew doing vigilantism. I have fought every antag in the RP servers, from syndicate agents to clown operations, always trying to maintain good communication in the security radio channel and reporting whatever was happening without losing the thread of the scene that was developing in front of me. I have processed the off station warrants against people trying to solve it in the less disruptive way with the shift but trying to give the people the RP they wanted when they put the jailbird trait in their character. I would like to think that most of the people reading this have met the officer with the emo hair and a cigarette in his mouth who has started the conversation with a “Morning Sir/Ma’am”.
Also thanks to the new Testmerge PR I had the chance to actually try the position before writing this application and I have to say that I really loved it. I leaded the security team without overstepping in their work, pointing the detective in the general direction but allowing them to do their job and also guiding and checking the officers, allowing them to do the job leading from the back while i attended command issues and take a step forward and leading from the front when it was needed while maintaining and ensuring that the team maintains fluid communication and reported their status.
In conclusion, my experience in security has going around all the roles involved in the department except the whitelisted ones, I think i have learnt a lot in all this time and even if i’m not the best at fighting i think i have developed a decent set of skills as security officer of which i consider communication with your team the most important one.
Answer two or more of the following:
What advice would you give to other sec players?
An advice that I will give to other sec players is that usually the flow of the shift is more important than being “a robust officer”. This is not a game about getting the higher number or arrest of frustrated antag plans but a game of roleplay. This goes from falling into the “Ey look at that” trick to allow a antag who had not the chance to develop their gimmick the chance to run, hide and reorganize to allow an antag to have his last meal consisting in a moldy burger once he had been sentenced to execution. Obviously you have to balance this with allowing the rest of the crew to do their shifts and if someone is just going over there just being a murderhobo you should do your best to stop it.
What was one of your favorite security moments?
I know that the question ask for one, but i have two:
The moldy burger incident mentioned in the last answer comes from a real shift. Royce Naik was antagging and he did A LOT of things, killing someone, escaping interrogation using an explosive radio that he was allowed to keep and assaulting the lawrack with a bunc of mercenary monkeys and nearly killing captain and all security. When he was finally caught he had a moldy burger on him, which he asked us to have as his last meal, there was some discussion but he were finally allowed to eat his moldy burger, moment where he put his whole arm inside the burger, took out a sniper rifle, gun down most of us and be stoped by another officer who was quick enough to develop the shield and return one of his sniper bullets to him, was a pretty neat moment.
In the other one I was in one shift with gangs and a full security team. Due to SSDD and other things one of the gangs lasted with just one member but they managed to blow the other gang's hideout. Knowing there will be consequences, the detective started to sneakily follow the lone gangster while the rest of all were dispersed around the station. The plan was to let the gang battle start and storm in to catch them red handed and take all of them to brig at once. Time passed and we saw the moment, we waited for the detective signal and in the same moment it was said we all stormed into maintenance. It was a quick but epic battle, one of the biggest i have ever seen, the full sec team against the gangs. It finished with all the gangsters stunned and cuffed and 0 dead officers on our side. I will to live (or lead) more moments like that.
Answer one or more of the following fun questions (because it's important for the HoS to be fun):
Write a poem to convey your thoughts on security/NanoTrasen/space/bees/anything related to SS13.
Nanotransen is blue
Syndicate is red
At security i wear red
Because i dont like the
alternate blue clothes
But im not a syndicate
So please please dont kill me
Previous bans (while this will not affect your application lying about it will):
I have been banned once. I took part in a scene that even if it was not my intention could be understood as suggestive as i was explained. I understood that it was not good and since then I have not had even an admin PM.
