Winston dank HoS application
#1
Character name: Winston Dank
BYOND username: The_genearl

Discord username: The_genearl. (note: im working out some difficulties with discord so this may or may not work)

Goon servers I play on: All of them, not much of goon 3 but plenty of 1 and 4.

Reason for application: I know that this is often used but one reason is that in the timezone I play I often find the HoS role unfilled, this can be especially bad when there are also no secoffs or detectives. I also love helping people and I feel the HoS is the one who can help with in game non knowledge based stuff the most

Security experience: I have played ss13 for 3 months according to my email and I started playing sec 2 months ago, give or take a few days. My first sec round was a gimmick round with zombies and I only got real sec experience a few shifts after. I have played many rounds as secoff and always like helping the station look slightly less like a war zone. I also like it when someone rolls tot and decides to do a gimmick round, I usually play along and act like they are a move supervillain. I love helping people both irl and in games and that's why I have a lot of medical rounds but the HoS can make more of an impact in my opinion. I probably have over 70 rounds as secoff, likely more as I am addicted to this game (I know, I have a problem) I just love sec and want to make a good impact on rounds and player experience, after all, A goon 1 round can last 3 minutes if the antagonist goes on a rampage with only one secoff with a taser to stop them. I hope this is approved even if not il get good feedback. I have encountered most antagonists as a security officer I have seen and beaten a tot with a cloaking field, bladed gloves and radbow going around the station killing everyone on sight. I have fought against a ling who had gone shambles in a hallway on cog1, I did this with rubber slugs and a taser, we still won the fight though. I have lots of rounds with other security officers and I usually corpearate with them well. I also have played quite a few rounds where the admins did a funny and messed with the station in some way, I usually try to keep order and it works for like 10 minutes and then everything goes to hell.

Awenser 2 of the following questions:

One of my favorite security moments was when I was a secoff and was dealing with a archfiend that kept causing problems, I was the only officer that round and I attempted try to not execute them so I ended up bringing them around 3 times. After I had done that and took them in the fourth time I decided to put them in a suit with internals and chuck em out an airlock. They ended up surviving and getting back to the station but it was quite fun.

I often find myself the only security officer in this case I patrol the station more thoroughly and always awenser calls over radio and encourage players to report crimes.

Awnser one or more of the following fun questions:

A gimmick I have wanted to run is getting security officers to run the checkpoints like in papers, please or operate the phone lines and encourage people to call in crimes.

Previous bans:
I got a day ban a while ago for giving out aa using the spare that someone gave me and opening the armory for loot as a non antagonist roboticist.

winston is still like, very new. whenever im antag and hes secoff he tends to not really know what to do in most situations, like he'll execute too early for some people, arrest people for no real reason, immediately arrest people who just got out of being brigged despite the fact that they didnt do anything else yet, etc. hes getting better with experience but i really dont think hes at hos-worthy yet.

one time he tried to arrest me but dropped his id on the floor on accident a while back so i was stuck being held by him while he tried to get into security, while he tried to get the HoP to get him a new id (we had no hop), and that lasted around 5 minutes of me trying to tell him that holding me for this long is absurd when the brig sentence wouldve been shorter. i ended up having to beg people passing by to grab me so i could actually get away to do anything.

I must first say, (a) don't take this personally, (b) I don't play security because the balance of "not being too lenient", "not being too tryhardy", "appropriately responding to any threat at any time", and "making sure the round actually has stuff happen for a while" all while keeping inventory management/tactic management at high form is too difficult for me.

It's good that you play sec at all, you are a fairly mechanically competent secoff, I have only one relevant anecdote to share.

--

There was once a round where a detective announced a surplus unboxing at public market just 3 minutes in. They opened up the crate, people were hmm-ing and interested in the quality of the surplus, and you immediately went to go and arrest them and ran into maints after them as soon as the unboxing "occasion" had finished.

Like sure, that's okay, if you immediately announce you are evil (especially as the detective), don't expect any leniency. But when you caught them, you said you intended to demote them to staffie, and while I wasn't actually a witness to the arrest, them suiciding and DNR-ing gives me the feeling you may have taken away most of their gear. I could be proven wrong so please tell me if I am.

In my opinion, a five minute head start or so could've been a good idea.

From my general, limited observations of Winston's patterns of behaviour, I think he could benefit from just a little bit more leniency. In going with the flow a little bit more, and not going after "the antag" immediately, so as to allow the round to develop to an "interesting"/dire point where security assistance is necessary.

I don't remember saying I was gonna demote them, I may be wrong so il just trust you on that. And he suicided after I had caught him and I was taking him to sec to brig them for EHC and take away contraband.

(replying because still relevant)
yeah I am pretty sure about the demotion thing

I do remember you and that other person making up very quickly. I see a real capacity for you to improve based on feedback, so I think that should be taken into consideration as well
