Let the AI read lips
#1
Since it was well received in the ideas of questionable quality thread (where I put it, honestly, because I assumed if it hadn't been implemented by this point there was probably some compelling reason why) I figured I'd give it its own thread.

Anyways, HAL could read lips.  It's a plot point, even.  So I propose that the AI be able to hear anything said within vision of its eye.  Maybe face-blocking masks could stop it, I dunno.

Finally, a way to spy on people without having to turn every intercom into my radio.

I think this'd be cool, and very appropriate for the HAL9000 vibe.

This would be nice to try, seeing as PDA interception was canned.

Not to hijack the thread, but now that we have key-click to pull up the APC for an area, could have have another key-click pull up the nearest intercom?

Big agree; most AIs basically already do this on every map that allows them to, but more and more, recent maps are not placing enough intercoms to really facilitate AI spying.

I agree as long as there is a toggle to turn it off.

I don't *always* want to see local chat.

This would be neat, especially with face-blocking masks preventing it.

What if the AI could only read the lips of those that its eye is adjacent to?

I think that's the general idea yes?

Hearing everyone on camera at the same time would get obnoxious pretty quick.
