Detective has a lot of cool crime solving gear but carrying it around everywhere is a chore and realistically you only really need to carry the forensic scanner most of the time.
That said if he had a cool belt he could wear it with all his crime scene gear and gun and be always prepared like batman.
He has three pairs of goggles I would never actually carry unless I needed them, but if detective had a utility belt you'd have more room in your backpack for stuff like that.
You can use the briefcase but having to remove all the papers and pen to carry crime scene gear is kinda pointless when someone can just disarm it from you or you drop it and lose it somewhere.
