Re-imagining Robotics Research: The Decrypter

The mini-game will increase the amount of metal, as it will unlock more effective production, stuff requiring less metal/rarer materials to produce upgrades. It's often the MD who goes into robotics to make medibots, and as HoS I often go into robotics to make securitrons.
I mostly just fear that the roboticist will start ignoring the rest of the station like geneticists do now. Roboticists already borg people whenever they get the opportunity, but people often come to the roboticist and ask him for stuff like limbs or flashes, and a proactive roboticist can do a lot for the station. I used the word "bored" twice, but I didn't say boredom was a bad thing - plenty of jobs are boring if the antagonist doesn't stir enough trouble, and having nothing to do in your job motivates you to go make your own fun, often by causing a bunch of trouble or by doing something creative and cool. Just look at staff assistants.

Eh, I really don't think it's as big an issue as you think it is. Most geneticists will take a quick break to load a body up into the cloner before returning to research since cloning is a fairly automated process. The main reason they don't clone people is that their research computers are away from where they can easily see the bodies.
