False error messages

When kicking your way out of a locker, sometimes you get the standard message of kicking it open, but sometimes you get the message "You kick at the locker, but it doesn't budge!" even when you very clearly kick the locker open. I can't seem to figure out what sort of precise circumstances triggers this message, if there even are any.

Also, when using the relay command in the teleman DWAINE systems, it always spits out an "Unable to interface with telepad." message even when the command very clearly worked and relayed between the given positions.
