Reason for application:

I took a longish break from playing security and the game as a whole after I had developed a bit of an unhealthy relationship with playing security. I came back with a better mindset after said break, and after a bit I decided to try out playing a bit of HoS on mentor fridays which I greatly enjoyed. I personally find it very fun being able to indulge a bit into an antags gimmick, which has in the last few weeks led to quite a few very funny moments. So I figure it would be neat to be able to play this role not just on fridays.

Security experience (300 word minimum):

I have been playing for quite a bit now, and this is my second hos app of which the first was denied (obviously). I think its important to mention that, since I received alot of really high quality feedback on how I played security and I believe that feedback has helped me become a much better player than I used to be. As mentioned before I have been playing a bit of HoS on fridays, which while I often found it a tad stressful it was quite rewarding to coordinate and navigate the security team through chaotic rounds, or to lay back a bit and gimmick during relaxed ones. I feel I am good at striking the balance of being lenient when an antag is getting started up and knowing when to crackdown harder.

While I haven't encountered any super new secoffs/secass's recently I do enjoy imparting knowledge about security mechanics, and I personally believe I am pretty good at explaining securities responsibility towards the flow of the round.

I also do occasionally enjoy playing security assistant, since it is honestly quite fun to lean more into a role that doesnt have such high expectations but can still be really helpful for coordination and defense in a security team. This will feed into something I will talk about later but I really like using the barrier and the flash, since I find them more fun to arrest with since it feels like its a bit more of a scuffle with the arrestee than just a few bops with a baton and they are down.

I think that an important detail of security experience isnt just about when you play security, but also about how you dont play security. Since as I mentioned before I used to play multiple rounds of security in a row, even if it was a very stressful round which was not healthy for me at all. Now I generally will never play two rounds of security, or even just two rounds of the game in general in a row which helps me keep a more positive attitude when going into rounds, and it means I won't act out just because I have gotten tired or annoyed.

Answer two or more of the following:
  • What advice would you give to other sec players?
Always announce verbally to someone when you are going to arrest them, and if you can say what you are arresting them for. Ideally you will say they are under arrest, if they run off repeat a few times and blow your whistle a bit just incase they didnt hear you, and if they do stop you ensure they understand the situation first. and if you are about to cuff someone the control+H to raise the cuffs in your hands as you move towards someone, or simply stating you are going to cuff them and giving them a few seconds to react. and especially always wait if you see the text bubble for the person to say what they want to say before you begin cuffing or trying to taze them, since they might not be able to exit the tab quick enough to actually react. Because I see this happen alot, and it always ends up being very lackluster because an antag who wanted to do a big final stand just gets stripped of their gear and hucked in the brig.

Another small bit of advice is to make deals with antagonists. Like for example if i want to arrest a gang member for some crime they have done, and this crime would typically warrant a search I could tell them to simply willingly hand over some contraband and if they did I would not search them on arrest. I personally really like this specific option since if its early into a round it can be really really tough on an antag to get all their gear taken off of them, so allowing them to hand over one or two pieces and being able to hide the rest can help them continue being a presence in the round + give them better odds of stealing back the rest of their gear. (sub morsel of advice, is only search people when there is actually good reason to, and you dont need to perform perfect searches unless you have failed to find something you know they have on them (like dont search every single box they have in their bag on their first offense))

  • Describe any differences in your playstyle when part of a full security team and when being the only security officer.
If there is a full security team I usually just like writing up case file reports and helping the detective with organizing printouts, or pursuing very minor crime, or giving out silly tickets. And if I show up to an alert/crime report and I see three or two officers already there I usually leave, since unless its clearly something they need a hand with they can handle it (and its hard to communicate when there are like five officers all at once asking whats going on). If I am the only officer I usually end up having to prioritize alot, being much more lenient to minor crime if there is currently something major demanding my attention. If its also REALLY bad I like trying to keep the crew in the loop, or involving them a bit more in helping out with security since the general crew having your back can be a big help.

Answer one or more of the following fun questions (because it's important for the HoS to be fun):

[*]
  • What's a security gimmick that you've ran or wanted to run?
This links back to what I had said before about the barrier and flash, though it is still something I will probably NEVER get to do due to how important tazers and batons are to secoff gameplay. I think it would be fun to see how security would go not being allowed to use tazers/batons for a shift, if it would make people creatively use their gear more (like using the riot launchers more) and if it could foster more coordinated tactics with security, like people shoving with the barrier and assisting other officers with getting a pin on a suspect.
