[PR] Hacking a manufacturer is permanent and causes malfunctions
#16
I feel updates to the game and content should be about adding fun, streamlining or offering different paths and choices to people in game or balancing things that might out right be broken. This change to fabricators feels as a whole unnecessary and adding more busy work and taking things away for offering very little, this isn't a heavy roleplay server a thought process should be, can people have fun with this? what more can it add?

There is already a suitable minor risk to hacking in that you might make the machine unstable or that you will electrify the machine, that feels like its the right level of counterplay and risk for the level of reward these fabricators and its hacking offer.

I feel these changes should only be applied to being emagged further fleshing out and adding something that is meant to cause nuisance and inconvenience, While I also like the idea that Whele mentioned of having upgrade chips/modules you can add to fabricators kind of like how we have modules for the cloner I think theres a potential there for a good idea and adding fun extra content like where to find them and how to acquire them? could they be part of requisition rewards encouraging interaction and fun between departments and cargo?

Already that idea sounds better to me than hacking bad, be punished for trying to get your bike horns and cyber butts.

I'm lightly opposed to the only way to increase fabricator speed being requisition only. Spamming out manufacturers as cargo is honestly very neat and something I'd like to see promoted more. Requisition is very rng dependent so locking out a way to expand that setup just feels meh. Now if there's a requisition upgrade on top of a more general speed upgrade that stacked I'd be down for that. Honestly maybe a interdictor rod that allowed manufacturers to run faster could be good

PR HAS BEEN CLOSED:

Will work on moving the incentives instead of this, such as moving faster speeds to an upgrade obtainable from requisitions and moving normal items to the general menus of fabricators.

Personally, i still want the crime PR. I thought it was a good idea and just needed adjustments to the vendors/fabricators inventory.

punishing people for mechanical hacking is dumb we have an entire department dedicated to hacking and modifying machines it's called engineering

That's just it.... Engineering doesn't do it cause they are busy.
I would like to remind you some botany's litterly spawn with a multitool and screwdriver to get weed going for minute 1.

This PR would allow Engineers to have engineering training to do it perfectly always.

Engineering's job is not to just hack stuff, its to repair and maintain the station, sometimes they need to hack things to get to places to do that fixing but it should not be a part of their job to go hacking company property every round, that doesn't really make sense.

missed the point that there's still people who enjoy doing mechanics and that's basically the only thing you can do on a slow round

Excempting engineering/mechanics access from that isn't hard to do.

And yes, you should be punished for something you should not be doing.

pr never mentioned that and it doesn't seem like the guy who was in favor for it wanted it to be that way so surely you could see my concern there

if that was the case, I wouldn't mind as much

mechcomp isn't hacking fabs/vendors, check yourself

Well, you could have suggested it. That at least would be constructive feedback.

hacking machines like vendors DOES allow more interactions with mechcomp devices
