A way too detailed guide to speedrunning space tutorial by some Nerd who isn't bread named James Yin
In this post, I'll be going over some of the tutorial code weirdery and the time saves you can make from them, should there be multiple methods to do one thing I'll precise it. But I will always mention the fastest one first.
- Disposal & Clown trinity
- Disposal.
- Do not immediatly equip the engineer ID, instead open the door, click on the chute then equip.
- This will enable you ; after you threw the can ; to remotelly (Out of melee range too.) press the red disposal button validating the task.
- Keep crowbar for the next room (Drop it there and pick it back up when possible.).
Reasoning : The chute is not locked if you haven't entered the room with the ID on you. Furthermore, when the chute is "unlocked" it creates a delay during which you cannot click on it, the game however, if you've already clicked on it once, will register any time you click on the windows button regardless of where you are.
The crowbar we will need to commit mouse homicide.
- Mouse Homicide and clown abuse.
- "Help" clown is fine (I recommend you pick up the crowbar after helping the clown up as they sometime take a bit to get up.).
- "Disarm" clown can be approached in two ways :
+ First method, shoving them, quick, but RNG dependant.
+ Second second, grab throw them against a wall, it will make them drop the item, more consistent, but slower than an instant shove.
- "Grab" clown, is fine.
- "Evil ass red mouse", I say evil ass red mouse, because it too has an rng element :
+ First method, Smack one time with crowbar --> Throw crowbar at mouse --> Slide into mouse.
This sequence of input can be performed instantly, the problem is, slide damage is rng dependant, thus this is not consistent and will not always kill the mouse.
+ Second method, Two crowbar smack into crowbar throw.
This always kills the mouse
- After killing the mouse when in cuffs sucide, this will automatically remove the cuffs then resist and proceed on
[UPDATED ON THE 26/12/2025 - Me].
Reasoning : Rng&shit.
- Brute kit, nothing particular to do just input fast, I recommend pressing you use key instead of aiming at yourself to use patches.
- Burn kit, normally applying the patch is slower, here is what you can do to be faster (Reason explained later.) :
+ Begin clickdragging burn kit.
+ Press your pickup key and enter once the window fully loads to grab the burn kit.
+ End click drag on adjacent tile.
+ Press pickup key again, select the first thing with enter.
+ Apply the patch.
- Toolbox, do the exact same inputs, except :
+ On the second pickup key press, you need to go one down (Can use arrow keys for that.) and select the wrench which is in that position.
Reasoning : Here we face the same issue as in disposals, we cannot immediatly open the containers, so we empty them instead by clickdragging them on a tile, it is however possible not to use the pickup key but it saves a lot of time in regards to mouse movement.
Furthermore pickup key'ing the items inside also picks them up faster as they seem to suffer from the same "interaction" delay of the containers otherwise.
(Two examples provided in video.)
Maint navigation and space navigation is only a matter of quick inputs, if you want to be an HYPER NERD, you can also grab your shoes and ID whilst in space and throw them for additional motion, but err ... Thats not that much of a speed improvement.
However what is a speed improvement is for the backpack section, double equip the backpack so that the step registers and like in the video of the first run you can then click on already equipped items to store them in.
Some very tiny optimisation.
- Nod emotte to flip the welder mask down.
- Prepare whilst the action bar process a radio message using the shorthand radiocall, aka --> ";Yourtexthere",
This is very much so optional, but we're trying to
be fast so might as well.
- Flaps and conveyor timing hell
- For the flaps you can either :
+ Slide under both of them, this can be faster, but is very rng dependant.
+ Lay down and go diagonally whilst sprinting, more consistent.
- For the conveyor belt, to ensure not getting slipped you can :
+ Run in immediatly like a psycho and pickup the banana frame perfect.
+ Preemptively toggle walk mode (You will have to toggle it again for the other objective.), tap shift just enough to make it past the conveyor and walk on
banana.
-
Optional you can also throw the other banana in the crusher whilst you're at it so that it doesn't bother us when we crush the clown.
- Pull chatbox, retrieve using your up arrow the message you said earlier.
- Then do the same for speaking on radio.
- Complete all the next steps and crush the clown (MIND THE BANANA IF YOU DIDNT CRUSH IT IN THE PROCESS.).
Flex for the camera.
Miscelleanous :
- Know it is technically but were speaking less than seconds faster to click on doors than run into them to open them.
-
The uncuff timer goes from 15 to 17, if you want the most optimal run in the world go for 15, alternatively, if it is at 17, you can reroll it by resisting again, only good
if you're reactive enough [UPDATED ON THE 26/12/2025 - Me] .
- TECHNICALLY you can also make rocket shoes with the O2 tank is the space walking part but I greatly doubt, unless rng god cooperates with you on the stun that it
is more efficient than just walking.
Okay go speedrun now nerds, I've no way to justify why I made this so detailed.
