Collecting ideas: Mutantrace Customization
#1
Lightbulb
Mutantraces are pretty bare in costumization options right now.
Anyone who plays them knows that they just don't have many (or any) of the things that we use to make our human characters stand out. The main reason for this is that hair and beards don't really work well with mutant races for technical reasons.

But of course this doesn't need to be a weakness, normal humans don't have horns or scales or antennae or fur, so I though:
"Why not lean into that sort of customization?"

Well here we are. But before this can be implemented I wanted to ask the community what options they want to have.

I'll start!
  • cows having different options for horsn (maybe repurpose some genes)
  • cows getting to pick from different patterns and colours like pugs can
  • lizards getting to choose different frills and being able to colour them

Now it's your turn, tell me your ideas!

This has been something that we've generally wanted implemented for a while but it's behind a bit of tricky UI/savefile implementation. Character setup would have to be reworked pretty substantially to accommodate it, (ie: it should show you cow customization options only when you're a cow) special style for pug is kind of a band-aid solution at the moment and shouldn't really be used for more stuff.

tldr good idea needs some difficult code work

Skeletons could also look pretty sick with horns.

I think one thing I'd like for skeletons is maybe the ability to play as different mutantrace skeletons. I think it'd be kind of hard to code, but basically having each mutantrace skeleton behind a "special style" could be pretty cool. You could play a skeleton lizard, or a skeleton pug, and so on. No skeleton skeleton though,  queen greater domestic space-bee

I also think that it'd be neat if monkeys could get customization and different patterns through genetics or something. Maybe they can look like a capuchin, or a mandrill, stuff like that. It'd be kind of out of the way, but for the monkey players or anyone who somehow becomes a monkey, it could be very neat to have more diversity, instead of every monkey being brown(as iconic as the look is).

God this sounds like a nightmare, though I can't really say I like hearing "when this gets completely redone, yea sure" as much as I do. But I do understand it and until this happens I guess this threat can at least remind people of why things are how they are.
