BYOND username: Tessellation
Discord username (if you are on our discord): Tessellation
Recommended by (if applicable): N/A
Goon servers you play: Usually whatever is lowpop (so, 3 nowadays), but I’ve played some rounds on both highpop and classic.

Reason for application + game experience (300 word minimum):

I’ve been playing for about 3 years now, and in that time I think I’ve played a good amount of every job (aside from genetics). At this point, I feel pretty comfortable explaining around maybe 80% of game mechanics to people. I probably have the most experience in security, but I’ve spent a lot of time playing command roles and I know a good amount about science. I’d really like to get back into playing medbay as well—I’ve gotten rusty at it.

When I first started, the game seemed entirely magical. I was incredibly interested in learning about all of the in-depth game mechanics, spent hours reading the wiki, and sent a good amount of Mhelps. As I learned, I always enjoyed showing off this information and trying to teach others how to do cool stuff.

Now that I’ve come back to the game after some time away, I’ve realized that watching newbees learn new mechanics and be excited to show off their knowledge is definitely my favorite part of the game. Seeing an LOOC asking how to do something makes my eyes light up. After typing “and remember to press F3 to ask questions to mentors!” for so long, I’ve realized that I’d really love to be on the other end of that F3 press.

I’m also applying because I think it’d be a great way for me to learn new things to teach to others. As I mentioned before, I took a ~6 month break from the game, and it feels like it’s gained a lot in that time. I’m not too knowledgeable about the nuclear engine, there’s new medical tools like the dialysis machine, and new traitor items that I don’t even realize exist until I see (and then buy) them. Seeing the answers other mentors give, then being able to convey that information later, really sounds great.

Finally, Goonstation really feels like home to me. Some of my best friends that I’ve spent time with IRL are people I met here. Being a welcoming face that helps others get situated and comfortable with the game and community really feels like paying it forward, and I’d love to have more ways to help such a wonderful and kind community.

Previous bans (while this will not affect your application lying about it will):

Pretty sure I’ve never been banned, but I’ve been warned once or twice in the past.

Hera plays a huge range of jobs in the game and has become knowledgable about almost all of them. Because she makes new characters so often, it's not uncommon that I'll check the end round credits to see who a new person I enjoyed seeing was and find that it was her again. Although we aren't online at the same time as much as we used to be, (myself being the one who's in game less often lately) I fail to remember anything in recent or long-term history from her that wasn't positive. She excels at staying polite and friendly in the discord as well. My only concern would be that since she's been away for a long time, it may take a couple more weeks for her to stumble upon all the newer changes. However, many of our existing mentors have taken long-term breaks and bounced back just fine, and I see no reason to believe she would be any different.

Hera is a longstanding player, someone I remember having great times with from when they were new to the current day, and through that they've always shown kindness, a willingness to help and engage with others. Hera has often shown a desire to put the experiences of the people she plays with first, engaging in RP with new and old characters alike rather then playing to "win" etc. I've personally seen them offer help ingame using LOOC or teaching in-character as well as on the discord.

Kind, friendly, helpful, and I trust they wouldn't abuse the tools given to mentors. I'd be very happy to see them join the team.

It's really hard to pin down exact moments on you due to how many characters you play, but every time I run into you whether I know it or not, you've been kind. I think I'd like to see you in the questions channel every so often helping out as I haven't caught you helping personally, but I also trust Munien's opinion and experiences so I'm confident you'd be good in the mentor channel.

I would like to see you as a Mentor and I hope to catch you helping people. +1.
