Operative Rehaul - Cut out the Captain - APARTHEID - 05-22-2013 I've played a lot of operative rounds and they are quite boring. I'm also quite tired, so here's a spill of some IRC text. [nameredacted] why not cut out the captain, include the heads, and make the auth code a 5-digit hexadecimal code [namredacted] the only way you can reveal the digit to the code is by killing a head and scanning their ID with something [nameredacted] so, you can logically start guessing after killing three heads [nameredacted]but you can only secure it with four dead [nameredacted] so it's like Rev, but everyone wants to protect the heads Re: Operative Rehaul - Cut out the Captain - Nitrous - 05-23-2013 So to make syndicate rounds more exciting, you want to drag it out even further because they now have 3/4 people more to kill? And what if just one or two of them are AFK? or if there are only 2 heads on the station? I fully agree th'at syndie rounds can be made more fun, but this isn't the answer if you ask me. Re: Operative Rehaul - Cut out the Captain - Klayboxx - 05-23-2013 It's a neat idea, though. Re: Operative Rehaul - Cut out the Captain - mbc - 05-23-2013 You could do something as simple as spawn two nuke disks. Maybe one for the captain, and then a random crewmember is given the other one (just for fun's sake, not that it makes any sense). Depending on server population, nuclear authentification disks appear in the pockets of random heads and crew members and the operatives have to adjust their pinpointers to follow each disk. The problem with this would be that people would huddle around the disk-carriers, arm 'em, or just toss 'em over to Sec, but then again, isn't that the point of a nuclear crisis? Re: Operative Rehaul - Cut out the Captain - Weavel - 05-23-2013 OK uh here's the problem with second-disk. 1. Does it spawn on every round with/without syndies? 2. Can the syndies decipher the needed code without the second disk? It sounds fun, but if it's not a constant thing it'll be a dead giveaway when Pubbie Scrublord the Botanist shouts "FUCK I HAVE A DISK GET THE ARMOURY" Also it should be an option as with being a traitor, "Be Disk Keeper? Yes/No" Re: Operative Rehaul - Cut out the Captain - mbc - 05-23-2013 Weavel Wrote:It sounds fun, but if it's not a constant thing it'll be a dead giveaway when Pubbie Scrublord the Botanist shouts "FUCK I HAVE A DISK GET THE ARMOURY" Yeah, the only way this would probably work is if it happened every round. That's not really something I would mind, though. You could try and use it to game the system and get yourself promoted or something. Also, it would be funny if traitors and stuff could start with the nuke disk. Re: Operative Rehaul - Cut out the Captain - Marquesas - 05-25-2013 I like it but here's THE PROBLEM with this idea: For god knows whatever reason people are shitting their pants scared during syndicate rounds, it's a bloody fucking miracle if the shuttle is not called by 20 minutes during one of these rounds. Your idea would drag it out further, making it virtually impossible to complete the objective with the current mindset of the players, so this could only fly with a wizard style shuttle early call block (intercepted and destroyed by syndicate ship). Re: Operative Rehaul - Cut out the Captain - jflan17 - 05-25-2013 Maybe syndicate rounds should have a 30-40 minute timer in which the syndicate is jamming communication so the shuttle can't be called until that point. That way they have that time to either die or win. Re: Operative Rehaul - Cut out the Captain - atomic1fire - 05-25-2013 You could flip nuke mode around. Give a code to the syndicates, and the new objective is turn on the station's self destruct mode. (IDK why all these space stations have a self destruct thing) Require that several terminals throughout the station be activated before the station blows up, just like zeta used to have. Add a syndicate portable generator that can power a room for an extended period of time but gives off radiation (which could be conveniently covered by the syndicates space armor) and you have a fix to the engineers being dumb. Each computer gets code entered, and then once all the computers say "yes blow the station up" all the crew die. This could be a dumb idea, but since someone says remove the captain (which seems kind of meh) I figured I'd throw the idea out there. Re: Operative Rehaul - Cut out the Captain - UrsulaMejor - 05-25-2013 That idea won't work because people will just transfer-valve bomb the computers away. That never happened on zeta Re: Operative Rehaul - Cut out the Captain - Nubcake - 05-25-2013 Klayboxx Wrote:UrsulaMejor Wrote:That idea won't work because people will just transfer-valve bomb the computers away. I remember several times when horrible metagaming jerks cut the wires to the zeta nuke at the start of the round 'in case a traitor had to detonate it' Re: Operative Rehaul - Cut out the Captain - david2222121 - 05-25-2013 Nubcake Wrote:I remember several times when horrible metagaming jerks cut the wires to the zeta nuke at the start of the round 'in case a traitor had to detonate it' We already frown on and ban jerks(pretty sure we ban them, at least) who would suicide bomb wizards, and we yelled at captains who spaced the nuke disk before making it simply return to the station. Why would this be any different? Why not, instead of three specific computers, we have it so any thinkdos or DWAINE computer could be used? The syndies start with their own auth disks, shove it in the computer, and run the program on it to start authorizing the nuclear charge/self destruct mode. Re: Operative Rehaul - Cut out the Captain - UrsulaMejor - 05-25-2013 How about we not do any of this because operative is already pretty fucking balanced and fun for both sides 90% of the time. |
